Right problem, wrong solution. How to help boys in school.

12 Feb

Here’s a study looking at mostly white, British boys published in Child Development which confirms what the MHRM has been saying for years: that boys face negative gender stereotypes in school which have a dramatic effect on their performance.

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2013-02/sfri-nsa020513.php

By the time they are in the first grade, little boys have internalized the message that they are not as good as little girls. That little girls will behave better, perform better and achieve more than they will.

rocks

The idea that negative stereotypes can be a self-fulfilling prophesy is not news and has been confirmed many times over. When black students are confronted with images of negative stereotypes about black students, they perform much worse on tests of achievement. It’s called a “stereotype threat” and it isn’t the slightest bit controversial.

http://serpmedia.org/MSAN/motivation/Aronson_2002.pdf

What’s interesting in the work on racial stereotypes is that the efforts to counter the effect of stereotype threat do not focus on convincing any particular racial group that they are perfectly capable of emulating the dominant white group, but rather that their own particular racial identity is NO BARRIER to achievement.

Free your mind, and your ass will follow.

Efforts to counter the stereotype threat for race DO NOT involve encouraging the minority group to behave just like the white folks do. Being a “banana” or an “oreo” or an “apple” is, quite rightly, considered deeply offensive. There is no requirement that you be your color on the outside and white on the inside.

banana

Let’s keep that in mind.

Let’s hop in our time machine and go back to the family-centered culture that dominated after the Second World War in all the major Western countries. It was a time of unparalleled technological and scientific achievement and the domestic birth rates soared. An average American family had four children, supported by one man, earning a family wage.

four

The idea that children need to play to learn was utterly, completely obvious. Mothers who actually raised their own children, spent time with them, and knew them would have been flabbergasted at the notion that children should sit quietly all day “learning”. On the contrary. Since Mommy had to clean up after her little darlings, the first thing out of her mouth once breakfast was over would have been GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!

play

Today’s mothers, on the other hand, barely see their children, have no idea what they do all day, are crippled with guilt (rightly so) and sickened at the thought that something bad is going to happen to them. Rather than look at their own lives, and how destructive the drive to “personal fulfilment” is for children, they look around for someone to blame, and guess what?

Oh shock and surprise!

Rapists! Murderers! Kidnappers! Paedophiles! Abusers! Robbers! Sadists!

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!

And of course, by all those terms, we mean MEN.

See this girl? She raped, kidnapped and murdered three young women, including her own sister, but she’s not the one we’re afraid of when we refuse to let Suzie and Johnny play at the park, is she?

karla

She’s out of jail, now, by the way, and the mother to three children of her own. One for every life she took. Her husband, who was partner to the crimes, will never see the light of day again.

http://news.nationalpost.com/tag/karla-homolka/

Well, that seems fair, no?

justice

So, if children are not to be allowed outside to play anymore, what are they to do? If we are not going to hold ourselves accountable, as parents, for their well-being, whom can we hold?

Oh, I know. Let’s make teachers accountable! Of course, they will have no powers to discipline our special, special snowflakes, but that doesn’t matter. We can still hold them accountable. We want measurable achievements, people! Proof that you are doing your job, although don’t ask me for proof I’m doing mine.

That’s crazytalk.

Schools, especially primary schools have been held to ever increasing accountability measures, especially at the primary level. Children must be able to demonstrate, on paper, that they are learning …. well, basically, to be girls.

DO

girls

Sit quietly

Read silently

Glitter your paper calmly

Speak softly

Cooperate gently

Listen submissively

Follow orders diligently

DO NOT

boys

Run

Jump

Play

Roughhouse

Shout

Compete

Show defiance

Show resilience

Get knocked down, and get up again to fight another day

Obviously, you can’t have a classroom full of shouting, jumping, competing little maniacs. That would be chaos. What you CAN have is a playground full of shouting, jumping, competing little maniacs.

playground

It used to be called RECESS, and it was the part of the day that allowed boys to shine, and to be boys. The days used to be split, pretty evenly, between activities that most girls loved to do and activities that most boys loved to do and that split allowed quiet boys and rambunctious girls to find their own places and thrive according to their own unique personalities.

tomboy

We have now created a school system that is an oasis for girls and that outright punishes boys for being boys. Schools have pulled out playground equipment and have banned balls and won’t let children out if there is ice on the ground and it has all become complete fucking madness.

banned

Let’s go back to that study. What did researchers do to counter the stereotype threat against boys? They praised little boys for acting like little girls. In an act of utterly cruel emotional manipulation, they took aside the little boys and explained to them that they were JUST THE SAME AS LITTLE GIRLS, and encouraged them to compete on the girl’s terms. Little boys, being every bit as emotionally vulnerable as little girls, tried their best. Their soft little hearts long for approval, for recognition, for love, for acceptance, just as girl’s do. Why?

little boy

Because they’re human beings, that’s why!

That’s the solution these female (shock!) researchers have come up with. Let’s manipulate little boys into thinking that little girls really ARE better and that they can be better, too.

As long as they act like girls.

What’s a good word for male on outside and female on the inside? I’m not sure, but I’m open to suggestions.

barbie

The solution is really very simple. Bring back recess. Bring back outdoor play. Let children scramble and tussle and compete and play. Adults need to be on hand to intervene in bullying, and that includes all sorts of bullying. Teasing chubby little Imogen until she gets an eating disorder is just as violent as beating little Rupert for loving Bratz dolls.

Boys are not girls. They learn differently and have different interests. And the reality is that while girls may perform better in the current school climate, they parlay that achievement into literature and sociology degrees, and not into engineering or computer science PhDs.

Knocking down boys is not just devastating for the boys in question. It is devastating for our whole society. Teaching them they are not as good as girls is destroying our technological and scientific advantage and we will all pay dearly for that.

And teaching girls they are better than boys? Well there’s your answer, if you want to know why women are such self-absorbed, narcissists incapable of taking any objective, quantifiable measure of what they actually contribute to the world.

manicure

Negative stereotypes about boys hurt us all. Be the change you want to see in the world. Hand your son a hockey stick and a puck and tell him to go outside and play. Tell him to watch for cars. That’s the real danger he faces. Even the ones driven by women.

Lots of love,

JB

A nice term is manginas. There are other, older terms too crude to mention, that are used to describe males who act like girls.

School is so fucked up and feminizing, if/when I have kids they will be home school, NO doubt in my mind.

In 1985 I told my wife (now of thirty three years) that our children would never spend a day in “public education” and they didn’t. After homeschooling our charges we have an attorney, communication director, and two computer engineers with spouses who comport themselves in the right and proper roles for each.

    Stop the madness.

To be fair, Karla Homolka’s case is widely seen as a major travesty, even by women (excepting the most ‘yay any action by any woman’ feminazis).
She was given a deal in exchange for testifying against Bernardo, and it was only during his trial that the truth came out that she was just as responsible for everything, at which point the prosecution realized they had made a massive error. The Canadian populace sees them as an evil team, and there was a lot of outcry when she was released at the end of her sentence.
It was a failure on behalf of the police/prosecution to assume that she was just the tagalong and not at fault, but it’s used as an example of that major failure now.

I agree completely with your points on schooling.
Aside from the option of homeschooling (I think it can be great, but isn’t necessarily right for every child), I have heard of some good boys schools opening up focused around the idea that boys learn differently and we should encourage that and give them space rather than forcing them to work like girls.

The problem to me is that it always dies very quickly. Neither JB or her commenters seem to return to a page more than a day after it is posted. I have noticed that unless you post a comment the day the post was posted, a comment won’t get additional comments.
I too think this is really too bad.

As a girl, I remember being ignored, or asked to let someone else answer to encourage more participation. The gender split is wrong, but I think it’s also part of a larger problem with schools that insist on splitting by age instead of ability, which fails both the quick learners and the slower learners.

A lot of that may be my fault. At the moment, I trash the commenters who come here peddling their feminist haterade.

I’m not really interested in moderating their trite drivel or responding to their inane accusations.

I might change that policy in the future. We’ll see.

The fact that most comments have to pass through moderation also probably slows down the possibility of discussion, which might be a factor. I don’t know how much trouble JB has with spam to need the moderation though.

I don’t know how much they are known outside of Canada, but up here, it’s strongly in the public consciousness (well, for those over a certain age), and it was discussed for its failures in law courses I took.

I’m not sure. I think there’s a lot of room for discussion among those who agree with the general concepts and enjoy going further, or adding perspectives, or disagreeing with a specific thing, without needing major argument with those who are clearly not going to have their minds changed.

It is a shame because, like you said, this is hurting our society.

I have heard that in the UK there has already been some talk of looking into the issue of boys in the education system, but this is being opposed by some comitee of equality (??).

Why oppose helping boys ? Why oppose boy only schools ? Is it because they’re afraid a new generation of boys just might figure out that they can, in fact, be “better” than girls if they put their minds to it ?

If studies like these are not suppressed outright, expect them to be attacked viciously, because they not only don’t fit the feminist narrative, they actively dismantle it.

The narrative that feminists push these days {*cough*marcotte*cough*} is the usual one: boys are taught from the earliest stages that they are privileged and the popular culture reinforces this, leaving men to think they are “entitled” to woman and turn into abusers when their privilege isn’t met.

Of course, Red Pill folk know differently, and the strength of that narrative is beginning to weaken. We know that boys and young men are taught that girls are better and to behave more in the manner of girls and to defer to them. If boys can’t do this, they are drugged into submission. At adolescence, young men are taught to be deferential toward young women in matters of sex and romance: just be respectful, be yourself, be nice, and you’ll find the right girl. And we know that this not only doesn’t work, but is making for a society of miserable men who are rapidly checking out of the system.

The proof of the weakening of the feminist narrative is the relatively recent mass use of the word “misogynist” to mean anyone who disagrees with a feminist and the growing narrative of “rape culture.” When the old themes aren’t working too well, the only way forward is to up the ante. I fully expect that these narratives will move toward more and more radical themes. The core doctrine of the real radical feminists (Marcotte is a piker by comparison) is that all coitus is rape.

My hope is that as more Red Pill wisdom starts to filter into the mainstream, that the idea of letting boys be boys will once again take hold. But the feminist backlash will be furious. It’s gonna get uglier before it gets better…

I like that you moderate comments. They’re usually approved very quickly anyway. If people want to have an ongoing discussion, then they can subscribe when they comment – or just frequent the post of interest for a few days.

JB writes practically every day (awesome!) so it’s to be expected that people move-on quickly.

I truly regard your blog as an oasis. It’s become a ritual that I visit every morning when I have my coffee. It’s a place I can be assured of not encountering feminist poison while enjoying your well-written and humorous antidotes to all the feminism that I WILL be exposed to for the rest of my day …workplace, government, professional communities (including virtual ones such as LinkedIn) and, of course, mainstream media. Even just the presence of their whiny, accusing, victimhood comments here will spoil it – even if they’re smacked down by other commenters. I just relish not having that agro at least here.

Although I know there are good women out there – reading your articles just brings it home for men like me. Thank you.

Related to stereotyping in schools is the White Ribbon campaign that’s run annually in many countries (not sure about USA – though it originated in Canada).

In addition to widespread community & media attention, they run school programs that effectively steroetype male=abuser, female=victim. http://www.whiteribbon.org.au/schools.

They distribute School Kits with prominent messages that men are the perpetrators of violence, or more likely to support such views, and that women are the victims. To reinforce the lesson, the kids are branded with White Ribbon wristbands. Can you imagine how boys may be stereotyping themselves as ‘potential monsters’ (self esteem?) and girls are already stereotyping (or by now just reinforcing) that boys/men can’t be trusted. It’s really sad.

You can watch a TV advertisement of White Ribbon and my opinion of it here: http://www.womenagainstmen.com/advertising/violence-against-women-i-swear.html

If I recall correctly, Homolka also served her full sentence without parole, so when she was released, there was no legal way for the system to monitor her location or activities, and I think her crimes were committed before sex offenders were required to be registered, but I’m fuzzy on that.

  22. Kai February 13, 2013 at 09:29 #

Yes, she was only released after her sentence, and there was nothing else to legally be done about it. The mistake happened in giving her the deal she got, but after that, they really couldn’t do anything. They actually tried to impose a bunch of conditions upon her release, but were restricted back by the fact that she had served a full sentence and was legally free.
Though she has moved and changed her name, she has been tracked down and exposed at least twice by journalists determined to not let her hide.

With the Western women’s movement the truth has become illegal. But, by definition, you can’t permanently outlaw the consequences of long term outcome. Lenin. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler et al. all tried it and failed. But reality eventually escaped from their imaginary jails and, in varying degrees, ruthlessly destroyed their various legacies. The same will eventually happen to radical feminism in time – and probably even more dramatically.

Feminism has been more insidiously covert than any and has entwined itself throughout every area of mainstream activity. But as with all ideologically driven tyrannies, it will cost countless lives and much misery to remove it. All the despotic regimes you mention were opposed by military opposition. No one will pick up a weapon to oppose feminism. Our leaders are using feminist doctrine as a means of neutralizing and controlling the political threat that men pose.
