Men throw better than women, and that can’t be right. Here are fourteen ways women are “better” than men to make the ladies feel superior. Too bad they’re almost all wrong.

17 Jun

In the most astonishing news of the century, researchers at the University of North Texas have discovered that men’s bodies are different from women’s!  I sure hope that was a publicly funded study.  These physical differences mean that almost all men can throw better than almost all women.

throw

The power in an overhand throw — and in a golf swing, a tennis serve or a baseball swing — comes from the separate turning of hips and shoulders. The hips rotate forward and the body opens, and then the shoulders snap around. Women tend to rotate their hips and shoulders together, and even expert women throwers don’t get the differential that men get. “The one-piece rotation is the biggest difference,” says Thomas. “It keeps women from creating speed at the hand.” Even when women learn to rotate hips and shoulders separately, they don’t do it as fast as men.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/throw-like-a-girl-with-some-practice-you-can-do-better/2012/09/10/9ffc8bc8-dc09-11e1-9974-5c975ae4810f_story_1.html

Well, that’s complete bullshit, obviously, and there is no way ladies are going to admit that men are better than women, ever, under any circumstances.  Declaring that women are better than men?  Oh, that’s fine.  That’s called delusions of supremacy equality.

Let’s take a look at rah-rah you go gurl Cosmopolitan’s list of all the ways that men suck, shall we?

http://www.cosmopolitan.com/advice/tips/women-better-than-men-things#slide-1

1.  Women learn better than men

Especially really hard subjects like calculus and nuclear physics and writing programming languages that use C-like syntax and keywords to add interactivity to webpages.  One day men will be able to grasp these subjects and the entire STEM universe won’t be so dominated by women.

Oh, wait.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/work-in-progress/2012/06/20/stem-fields-and-the-gender-gap-where-are-the-women/

My bad.  Okay.  Aside from actual subjects that require real skills and knowledge, women learn better than men.  What does “learn” mean in this case?  Let’s keep in mind that boys get higher marks on standardized tests, but receive lower grades from teachers.

Why do girls get better grades in elementary school than boys, even when they perform worse on standardized tests?

http://psychcentral.com/news/2013/01/05/why-girls-do-better-in-school/50050.html

What we mean by “learn” in this proclamation of superiority is that girls are better able to meet the environmental conditions set by mostly male female teachers.

girls

The researchers say that “approaches to learning” is a rough measure of what a child’s attitude toward school is. It includes six items that rate the child’s attentiveness, task persistence, eagerness to learn, learning independence, flexibility and organization.

When it comes to testing knowledge via standardized tests, boys kick little girl’s asses, but when it comes to sucking up to teacher, girls rule.  Excellent.  And what do girls parlay that advantage in to? Oh right.  Secretarial work. Good job ladies!

http://money.cnn.com/2013/01/31/news/economy/secretary-women-jobs/index.html

chart

So basically girls have mastered the alphabet, how to tell time, the days of the week, the months of the year and the QWERTY keyboard.  Outstanding accomplishments! Good thing we’ve rigged the entire educational system to play to girls strengths.  What ever would we do without someone to fetch coffee and press “print”?

2.  Women are smarter than men

Yeah, no.  In a spectacular misinterpretation of James Flynn’s analysis of gender and IQ, Cosmo claims that women have higher IQs than men.

Flynn looked at IQ scores from ages 14-18 and found 5 modern states where he could get standardization samples with at least 500 people of each gender. The states he looked at were Australia, New Zealand, White South Africa, Estonia, and Argentina. It was important that he used standardization samples, because that means that the IQ researchers made an effort to get as representative a sample as possible.

Analyzing those 5 datasets and throwing away all of the older studies from the prior generation (prior to 1982), he compared men and women on the Raven’s Progressive Matrices test, a test of abstract, logical reasoning. Setting the male score at 100, Flynn found that women scored the lowest in Australia (99.5), but in the other 4 nations Raven’s scores varied from 100.5 to 101.5.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/beautiful-minds/201207/men-women-and-iq-setting-the-record-straight

See that part about setting the male score at 100?  That means women have, at best, reached parity with men in terms of raw scores.  And what Cosmo conveniently ignores is the standard deviation.  Most women cluster around average.  Out in the far right tail, where genius lives, men outnumber women by a factor as high as 8:1.

http://www.iqcomparisonsite.com/sexdifferences.aspx

So no, cupcakes, women are not smarter than men.  At best, they’re equal, in terms of raw scores but not equal in ability. Flynn notes that if you try to intentionally create a gender neutral IQ test by throwing out items that favor one gender over the other, you find that you can’t eliminate a female verbal advantage and a male advantage for visual spatial items.

Sex differences Adult Raven Mensa Cutoff

And if you want to look at the population of individuals with IQ scores over 140, women are not even in the ballpark.  Which is probably a good thing, because girls can’t throw anyways.

3. Women are cleaner than men

Hahahahahah!  Guess the ladies have a little more time to take a break from the strenuous task of organizing a calendar to wipe down their desks with hand sanitizer.  Prissy little things.

cleaning

But seriously, men have 10-20% more bacteria on their work surfaces than women.  Could that be because men are 10-20% bigger than women?  Just a thought.

And why should we worry about all these icky germs?  Are they going to cause the next biblical plague?

Nope.  They’re perfectly normal.

“You shouldn’t be worried in your own office — it’s you; it’s just a reflection of who you are,” said study researcher Scott Kelley, an associate professor of biology at San Diego State University, referring to the bacteria you find on your typical desk or keyboard. These bacteria are “with us all the time, and they don’t make us sick,” he said.

http://www.livescience.com/36411-bacteria-offices-desk.html

So basically, women are better than men at fussing over pointless shit that won’t hurt you anyways?  Oh, okay.  Well, we can give the ladies that one, no?

4.  Women interview better than men

Now this study is actually very, very interesting.

nervous

That anxiety you have about interviewing for your next job may not be such a bad thing after all.  That is the finding of new research by three University of Western Ontario researchers who looked at how men and women handled the stresses of job interviews. Their findings showed that women, although typically more stressed about interviewing, performed better than their male counterparts in interviews thanks in large part to the way in which they coped with stress.

Women performed better in interviews than men, meaning that interviews are actually a pretty poor indicator of good job fit.  The take away from the research is that businesses end up making poor hiring decisions if they use anxiety as a measure of future performance.

You will actually end up making poor hiring decisions as a result of anxiety.

http://www.livescience.com/18495-interview-anxiety-differences.html

Look at what the researchers are saying.  If you hire the person demonstrating the LEAST amount of anxiety, you just might be making a poor hiring decision. In other words, if you hire the woman because she appears calmer, you might be missing out on the best employee.

The man.

So yeah, maybe women interview better than men, but the problem for business is that they don’t make the best employees.   The rationale for the research was to make sure employers aren’t missing out on the best candidates based on superficial appearances.

No much triumph in talking the talk if you can’t walk the walk, now is there?

5.  Women evolve hotter than men

beauty

That doesn’t make women better than men, it makes them more fit to compete FOR men.  Not with them.  For them.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/5912250/Women-getting-more-beautiful-say-scientists.html

6.  Women survive car accidents more often than men do

And that makes you better?  .

“Men take more risks behind the wheel than women, and so men are more likely to get into serious crashes,” says Anne McCartt. “We don’t have any way of comparing their driving abilities, but on the likelihood of getting into a serious crash in which someone dies, men win handily.”

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/article.aspx?cp-documentid=788126

The fact that men are more willing to engage in risky undertakings is why we exist in a world filled with unparalleled luxuries. It’s why we have antibiotics and automatic braking systems and pictures of our planet taken from space.

earth

That comes with a price.  It’s rather ignorant to gloat over the bodies of men who have given you every extravagance because they have been willing to strive.  Women are inherently more cautious than men, and that’s fine.  It’s one of our key differences from men, but it doesn’t make us better.  It makes us different.

http://www.nber.org/papers/w14713

7.  Women are better at seeking comfort than men

A Mind survey of 2,000 people revealed that women are far more likely than men to talk through their problems. Fifty-three percent of women talk to their friends about what’s stressing them out, as opposed to 29 percent of men.

chatting

I’m not sure if the writer knows what the word “comfort” means.  She appears to have it confused with “talking”.  Another case of women deciding that they alone get to define what the appropriate strategy is for dealing with stress.  Ladies talk to friends, therefore the only acceptable way to deal with problems is to talk to friends.

Except that is not how most men deal with stress.  The number one thing men do to cope with stress is isolate themselves and consider how to solve the problems.  They seek solutions.  They don’t want to chatter away over cappuccino.  They want to know what they can do about the problem.

http://socialmedialovestory.com/387/how-men-and-women-cope-with-stress-differently-dr-john-gray/

8.  Women are more recession proof than men

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80 percent of those who have lost their jobs since December 2007 have been men.

Nice.  That doesn’t make you better, it just means you have better job protections.  Given that so many women are employed by the government, it’s not surprising they have managed to hang on to their jobs.

http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/res/stats/demo11-eng.asp

We’ll see how long that lasts.  The money doesn’t grow on trees, ladies.  Those unemployed men paid taxes, and without those taxes, you have no job.  Don’t get too gleeful just yet. In the UK, men pay 60% of all the taxes remitted.  Destroy their jobs, and you destroy your own.

http://fullfact.org/factchecks/women_men_gender_gap_income_tax-28758

9.  Women graduate from college more often than men do.

Yeah, with degrees in what, exactly?  Oh, the humanities.  Excellent.  How that’s doctorate in a STEM field going?

stem

Oh dear.  Looks like it’s men who earn the most valuable college degrees and achieve the highest designations.  Don’t worry though.  There are plenty of Starbucks to go around.  Barista of Arts, summa cum latte.

10.  Women eat healthier than men

Again, the writer appears to have confused “healthy” with “vegetables”.  Men eat red meat and bacon?  Get outta here!

http://freetheanimal.com/

Based on national obesity rates, it doesn’t look like a whole lot of women are choosing “healthy” foods.  Women are better than men at being fat, apparently.  Congratulations.

obesity

http://www.voxeu.org/article/should-government-intervene-reduce-obesity

11.  Women have stronger immune systems than men

No wonder men act like such babies when they have a sniffle — women really do have stronger immune systems than men! If there are little battles going on in our bodies, women have a secret weapon: estrogen. A study done by McGill University indicated that estrogen gives women an edge when it comes to fighting off infections. That’s because estrogen confronts a certain enzyme that often hinders the body’s first line of defense against bacteria and viruses.

man sick

Okay, here’s my pet theory about “man sick”.  Thanks to menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and childcare, women have evolved to pretty much ignore small physical discomforts.  They’re such a common feature of our lives, that our brains literally do not register any pain until it gets very severe.  And since we are primarily engaged in low-risk tasks, there is no reason for our brain to respond to a few little aches and pains.

Men, on the other hand, are typically involved in physically strenuous tasks that involve risk-taking and teamwork.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2335104/Is-muck-sweat-key-male-teamwork-Chemical-produced-men-perspire-linked-willingness-cooperate.html

Whether a man is hunting a woolly mammoth or helping his neighbor clean the gutters, there is a risk to failure.  A man who is injured,  even in a small way, endangers the whole team and project.  Men have evolved to respond to pain immediately, because if a man is weakened, the whole team is weakened.

Makes sense to me.  I’m very compassionate to men who have colds.  They really do feel it more than women do.  Again, that doesn’t make one of us better than the other.  It makes us different.

12.  Women live longer than men

Oh please.  We leave all the stressful, shitty, dangerous, demanding jobs to men.  No kidding we live longer.  That’s called being pampered.  The more women that take on stressful work, the smaller that gap will be.  We don’t live longer because we’re better than men.  We live longer because we let men do the dirty work.

http://www.economist.com/news/science-and-technology/21569362-rich-world-men-are-closing-longevity-gap-women-catching-up

13.  Women are better managers than men

“Women are community builders and consensus builders, which is important,” he explains. “So we have what I call the feminization of management.”

http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/better-boss-men-women-experts-females-tops-today-economy-article-1.431291

We’ve covered this before, but it’s worth saying again.  Women are better at managing to avoid responsibility and they resist making really tough decisions.

http://judgybitch.com/2013/03/31/bitches-be-mean-ladies-be-crying-lets-give-them-more-responsibility-clearly-they-can-handle-it/

It’s all fine and well until your business hits a rough patch, and then you find the ladies boo-hooing their way out of having to make a call.  Fair weather managers may be nice to work with, but they won’t help you when the storm hits.

14.  Women make more on their investments than men

Annnnnd we’re right back at risk aversion.  Women don’t take risks.  They won’t fund that new biotech IPO.  They won’t ruck up seed money for a mining exploration.  They won’t put their money on the table for the next great leap forward in technology.

No way.

Women’s money funds the established, tried and true companies.  Men’s money funds the innovators, the risk-takers, the geniuses, the future.

http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/4480862?uid=3739448&uid=2&uid=3737720&uid=4&sid=21102329700701

Women’s money calms the waters.  Men’s money takes us to the stars.

shuttle

I’d say we need both.

So, in summary, we have found the material facts to be that women are better at men when it comes to fussing over germs that won’t hurt you, and better at being fat.

Well.

I think that deserves a round of applause, no?  Or a round of tequila shooters.  I’m so over this women are better, men are better blah blah blah.

We’re different.   And equal.  That does not mean identical.  Trying to measure women against men as interchangeable carbon copies of one another is not just irritating, it’s stupid.  Women will always lose.  And if we measured a man’s worth in terms of his ability to breastfeed and successfully gestate a baby, he would lose.  Notice that most men don’t go around thinking up ways to pretend they are “better” than women.

Cosmo, get over yourself.  And learn to throw a ball for Christ’s sake. It’s not that hard.

w-Girlthrow

You know, if you’re a man.

Lots of love,

JB

Re: Women living longer, National Geographic (purveyor of PC claptrap and pretty pictures) has in their April 2013 issue an article titled, “Ladies Last”. It delivers the shocking news that although U.S. men have increased their longevity by 4.6 years since 1989, women have only increased theirs by 2.7 years. According to one author of the original study, “This is a wake-up call.” Apparently the sexes are in a longevity race (who knew?), and although women are still winning, men are closing the gap. How can we stand by and allow this to happen?

Oh, c’mon, JB. You’re going to hurt their feelings and lower their self-esteem. Perhaps we should start a movement to ensure that by next season, 50% of major league pitchers are women. Though that underhand wind-up and throw might cause some problems.

Women also die much less frequently in coal mines or space shuttles! Yay! Better!

But I’m not sure I agree about “man sick.” Most men I know, myself included, tend to load up on over-the-counter meds and soldier on with a cold or even a fever. My ex used to want to be “cared” for when she was sick and she couldn’t understand at first that I didn’t want the same when I fell sick. Maybe I’m different, but when I get sick, sick enough to stay in bed, I just want to be left the fuck alone. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the effort, I do; but if I want another blanket or some chicken soup, I’ll ask for it, and, no, my answer hasn’t changed in the last 10 minutes, and I’m not mad at you, but please just get the fuck out. (Okay, I’ll cop to being cranky-sick.)

But other pain is just something that most men put up with. A number of years ago, I was on a sailing cruise with family up the New England coast to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. I’d felt a twinge in my upper back near the shoulder blade when we met the boat in Newport and over the week it became progressively worse and worse and was clearly a pinched nerve. My wife wanted us to put into port to see a doctor, but instead, I chowed down on Advil, drank rum, and kept on my my sail-handling and boat-handling duties and shut the fuck up about it, even though it felt like there was a white-hot icepick stabbing me in the back. But the, a free 10-day sailing cruise doesn’t come along every day, ya know?

    My responses:
    1) Learn better? There is an objective way to measure how well one person learns versus another? I didn’t think so.

    2) Smarter? Only someone who made up #1 would actually believe #2

    4) Interviews are a social process where attractiveness matters. Women are more attractive to look at than men. So, DUH. Interviews are not a measure of work performance.

    6) Women survive more car accidents because cars and their safety systems are built with their size body in mind. Ever tried to fit in the back seat of your average sedan when your male body is taller than 6’1″? Most times, your skull is affixed to the ceiling of the vehicle if you sit up straight, meaning at the first instant of collision, your neck snaps as the roof pulls it back. Why do you think most men prefer truck ownership?

    12) It’s hilarious how the fact that women live longer is a source of pride, yet whenever the question of health funding comes up everyone dumps loads of money into research into women-associated health problems. I’ve not lived to see any advertising directed at male-health-problem funding. Yet it seems like every other month there’s some female-disease-awareness-month with a ribbon.

Regarding #11, yours is almost exactly the same as my theory.

Women feel sick at least once a month, if not more often. And they still have to function otherwise they’d never get any of their stuff done.

Men get sick once a year (I get sick once every winter and that’s it, but it levels me), so their ability to function during that is drastically less because they have much less practice and need to do so. Men just aren’t used to being sick. Women are.

Yep. That certainly describes me. I don’t get usually get anything more serious than a light cold more than once every couple of years or so, but when I do I’m worse than useless for anywhere from a day to a week. (BTW, guys [and gals], on a related note: if you work for a boss who doesn’t believe that there’s any reason for anyone to ever take a sick day for anything short of a crippling accident or a case of the Black Death, “Presenteeism” can work real wonders in dispelling that myth and clearing up certain misconceptions. Nothing quite satisfies like passing a case of the flu on to an asshole [or bitch] boss.)

I noticed item 13 is another example of the: “its the way women do it, so it must be better!” mentality.

Consensus building and collaboration is rarely the best way to get things done. So rarely that in my line of work, inability to make a command decision in favor of working to give everyone a say and building consensus is a firing offense if it goes on too long.

The author, being a woman, sees it as a strength and says women are better managers because of it. Maybe its that blind ness to reality that makes it so startlingly rare to see women doing what I do.

The age gap would have to be closed by advances in tech instead of more women taking dangerous jobs.this is due to bone structure among other things as well as evolution since women who can perform well in such jobs hve been few and far between, which causes the genetic material to be largely absent in the gene pool that would permit more women taking on dangerous jobs.if we tried it now, we’d probably just have women dying all the time

I was a pretty good javelin thrower as a younger bloke and trained with some of the best female throwers in the world. Among them was this lady. Bev was actually the first woman to bench press over 300lbs. In those days she specialised in the shot putt and discus events.

I recall her saying that one of the finest compliments she’d been paid was to be told she ran like a man. She believed that “men run perfectly”. She once made a bet with me that I could throw her implements further than she even though she could lift heavier weights than I and that I hardly ever did those events at all. It turned out she was correct.

The excerpt you’ve included regarding throwing action is an excellent description. In watching female javelin throwers from behind there’s a noticeable hitch, or pause, in the throwing action which I’ve always ascribed to the slightly different pelvic angle. It’s as though there’s a necessary adjustment or re-alignment during that action which is always going to rob it of power.

Considering how mainstream media is heavily feminist-influenced – perhaps you’re just unaccustomed to seeing this. Basically, JB is just calling-out nonsense and restoring balance by saying that men and women are different and are meant to work together at life – it doesn’t mean that one is better or worse than the other. Actually, having reviewed the throwing diagrams, I’m beginning to think that I “throw like a girl”!

I remember in high school (Australia), there was a boy originally from the US. Wow, could he ever throw!! As a recall, he was a baseball fan. I remember he had an unusual throwing style – he did lean back a lot and wind up. Considering how far he could throw (much further than anyone else) we all thought he was a freak of nature.

“Building consensus” is important to women, especially if a woman is in the boss’s chair, because “consensus” = plausible deniability. If something goes radically awry that was based on a “consensus,” then fingers can be pointed in multiple directions and the blame for failure can be spread diffused. An action taken based on a unilateral (“executive” or “command”) decision means having to own up to one’s mistake. There’s nowhere to hide. For this reason even men tend in today’s corporate world tend to avoid unilateral executive decisions like the plague. To a woman such a decision has unthinkable implications.

Speaking as a woman I just don’t understand why women get all pissy when it’s shown that men are better at something, usually a physical activity. Um, it was obvious to me as a child that males are stronger and faster on average…so what? Why should I feel bad about that and try to one-up them? Isn’t it possible for these strong, empowered women to work on self-improvement without it being some sort of attempt to prove how much more capable they are than men? Why not just try to become fitter and stronger for your own sake? Why not engage in some problem-solving activities for your own benefit? Compare yourself to yourself, not on the basis of others. And why not accept that a man’s way of doing things in business, is often the answer and not this “cooperative” stuff? Hey, the male approach has only worked for hundreds of years.

I still have a difficult time connecting to most women my age and now that I’m starting to reject the feminist way of thinking it’s even more difficult.

Do not reject the whole feminism. There is something positive in it.
Look, in my country, back to the seventies, we had a fascist dictatorship. Women were not able to vote (neither men, anyway), they needed hubby’s permision to open a bank account, to travel abroad, there was no divorce, no abortion (even in the cases of rape, down syndrome or danger for the mother, which are the current legal causes), women were not able to be judges and they had all kind of obstacles to be lawyers, Women only could chose beeteween giving birth non stop from 20 years old or being prostitutes.
So, feminism, at the beginning, was right. Now it is just female chauvinism.
I do not like soccer at all. Find it very boring. I prefer ice hockey. No ice hockey in Spain. Pity.

Well, I am currently living in Australia. I am almost 23 and damn, it feels strange to say that, I don’t feel right being an adult. Also, are there any young readers of this site or what?

Of course not everything about feminism is bad, but what this current generation of feminists are doing is basically making it look as if men have had everything handed to them throughout history while only women suffered. Which simply isn’t true. Most of the world lived under a dictatorship at some stage and anyone could suffer in such a situation. Economic hardships didn’t just affect women, politically based discrimination, oppression and assassinations didn’t just affect women. Life was pretty damn difficult for most of the world’s population. And what’s with all this made-up oppression, like “being sexually objectified”, “slut-shaming”, “fat-shaming” and whatever else shaming? Everyone is objectified in some way, too bad.

I’m sure I don’t need to go into more examples of how feminists today just get it wrong in general, but you know, in social situations it’s not very popular to be the woman who calls them out on their shit. Not that I care about being popular with them, but it’s like talking to a brick wall. I don’t deny that feminism/women’s rights movements of the past have made certain aspects of life easier, but I reject the notion that women should be given everything without taking some real responsibility for themselves and their actions. Sadly, that’s all I see from feminists today and even women who don’t identify as feminists buy into the women = perpetual victim bullshit. (Which makes it difficult to actually connect with them when all you want to do is bang your head against a wall). Feminism isn’t fighting for equality anymore, it’s not even grounded in reality anymore.

No ice hockey here either, unfortunately, and rugby has lost it’s spark for me. I have relatives who are very into soccer, so I can’t ever escape it, but it doesn’t bother me.

As for feminism, I think what Spaniard is saying is pure truth – feminism WAS a great thing. Like labor unions, feminism worked to correct imbalances in our society and create choices and options for a segment of our society that had historically had a pretty limited number of those things.

Also like labor unions, feminism accomplished their original goals and refuse to allow their organization to die out, as it should have done once it accomplished its goal. Now, like *some* unions, they search harder and harder for more and more petty things to complain about in an attempt to perpetuate their organization, because they know without this petty grievance mongering that their organization will become obsolete.

The problem is that so many of their adherents actually believe the crap that they spout, that you get situations like the one where my Dad nearly ran over a woman’s baby when she wheeled it out in front of the semi truck that he was driving, in an attempt to stop him from crossing the picket lines during a union strike at the company he worked for. Dad was non-union management, and drove truck for the company during strikes to keep the company moving. This lady wanted to stop him from moving freight, so she put her baby in front of the truck to stop him. She didn’t realize that she had done so in a way so that the carriage was below his field of view, so he didn’t know it was there, and when he went to proceed, he damned near ran the baby over before someone told him to stop.

This lady was so blinded by the propaganda and BS that she was being fed, that she was willing to risk her baby’s life over a $5 reduction in her health insurance copay (which, as memory serves, was the issue over which they were on strike, if you can believe that horseshit). It’s the mindless automatons that follow the grievance mongers that are the danger, along with the people like lolwut above, who are so steeped in the prevailing feminist crapfest that they can’t even wrap their minds around someone speaking out against it, and completely misunderstand the entire point of the article like he did.

To him, he’s so used to hearing women=victim that he can’t even hear someone disagree with that without couching it in terms of women being victimized by it, ie “shitting all over her own sex.”

SO don’t deride feminism totally – it served its purpose, and the purpose was a noble one. It has just become something less than what it was over the years in an attempt to keep it alive, when it really isn’t needed any more.

Well, I am currently living in Australia. I am almost 23 and damn, it feels strange to say that, I don’t feel right being an adult

That’s just because you have always had a perception of adulthood that was skewed by your being a kid. You always had this idea that adults were adults, and kids were kids, and that somehow, once you grow up and become an adult, that you’d be different somehow.

The truth is, you’re always just “you” and you always will be. I’m 32 now, and I think back on when my Dad was 32, (I was 7 or 8 then) and he was Dad. Like, capital D, capital A, capital D… DAD. He was an adult. The man. The guy that brought home the bacon, protected me, disciplined me, and everything else that Dads are supposed to do.

But to him, he was just him. He wasn’t anything special. There was no landmark moment in his life where he said “okay, now I’m an adult, and I’m different than I was yesterday.”

You just are who you are. You are simply the sum of the decisions that you’ve made up to this point, and you will continue to be just exactly that until you die.

Think about how different you’ve become in just the last 6 years – 17 to 23. How many more responsibilities you’ve taken on, bills to pay, jobs to go to… You grew up and became an adult and didn’t even know it. But you’ll never FEEL that because becoming an adult isn’t a tangible event so much as it is just a part of the natural progression of your being.

In States the thing is different because States was born as free country with “Justice for all”, “opportunities for all”, etc. Most of Europe (Western Europe) has been a tyranny until 1945. Spain, Greece and Portugal until 1975. Eastern Europe until 1989.

Hell, we have so much difference in unions just in my neighborhood that I never, ever make catch-all statements about unions (or try not to). Some are great. The local carpentry unions, for instance, have found their niche in being more or less a trade school and apprenticeship program for workers. They do a good job.

It’s just that a lot of unions are refusing to adapt to the times and have just become perpetual grievance mongers instead of adaptive, useful organizations that accomplish good at the end of the day.

“The truth will set you free”

It’s weird to see scientific-minded(?) people talk about “the truth” that way. It seems like an admitted discomfort with actual scientific process. She’s definitely “shitting on her sex” btw since she words everything as saying that male-leaning (so to speak) processes are superior to female-leaning ones, every single time!

“what you’ll notice is that JB debunks divisive feminist propaganda”

See above. Her debunking would be as divisive as the feminist propaganda in that case, considering how she words it. “Women do this and men do it too but in a superior way.” Her piece also exudes some weird sort of essentialism that can be found in radical feminist circles as well, though it’s used to prove female superiority there.

“Considering how mainstream media is heavily feminist-influenced – perhaps you’re just unaccustomed to seeing this”

I’m not unaccustomed to seeing women suck up to men, actually, and I’ve always found it repulsive, since I was a kid (the reverse happens too and it’s just as disgusting). This instinctive repulsion is what I’m talking about, in the first place; seeing a woman attempt to defend me not just by praising my qualities but by basically insulting her own comes across as pitiful. I think it just comes across as a lack of self-respect rather than extraordinary confidence to me. I have no clue which category the owner of this blog falls into (probably both).

Where I live (not the USA or Western Europe), mainstream media is certainly not heavily feminist-influenced. I kinda chuckled when you wrote that.

“by saying that men and women are different and are meant to work together at life”

I’m not sure what this is supposed to mean. Sounds like some sort of conservative Christian “different and complementary” thing. What’s “meant to” all about? To take it to somewhat absurd levels so I don’t argue about it for too long, I’m guessing that a male-only or a female-only society could work just as well, especially with artificial reproductive systems and even hard AI being in the realms of possibility now.

for superiority to be claimed, both groups must be able to the same thing with equal ability and efficiency. as women haven’t evolved to do things on the same level as men, they have less ability which prevents superiority to be claimed. this can be turned around as well, women have evolved to do things better as well. the piece being debunked by JB tries to say that women can do things better by virtue of being women, which is blatantly false with the points it brings up as they are mostly things that men have evolved to do on a completely different level. she’s not sucking up, she’s distancing herself from bullshit that put’s herself in a false light. also, non-western media isn’t exactly what you could call “mainstream media”

Women are often better than men at persuading others, particularly in situations where straight up logic and data don’t form a strong enough argument alone. And lots of women seem to be better at navigating social interactions than men (when my brother got together with his partner, we all noticed how much more pleasant family gatherings became, ’cause he’s a tad stoic, but she compliments that perfectly).
As far as I can see it, men are good at getting shit done, and women are good at making doing it possible/easier. Once things have been completed, women tend to be good at keeping them running well, and men at fixing any problems that should arise. I think that’s a nice set of complimentary roles, but some folks just want to have it all…

I understand what you were getting at but “it’s why we exist” is still a philosophically-laden statement that would take a big convo to unpack. Even a naturalist can disagree with what it entails (or at least your phrasing there but we know how important that is, these days).

“I understand some people don’t want children. Okie dokie. You are basically saying that you, personally, are genetically worthless. I doubt your genes agree.”

If I say “I don’t want children,” then my genes can’t disagree, they are making me say so – after my social interactions, the nurture part, take place and somewhat shape my views of course or am I missing something?

Most female anti-natalists I’ve talked to, in “first world” countries didn’t seem to think they were genetically worthless. They were usually decent-looking and clever people who thought exposing their children to the ills of the world wasn’t worth a shot at vague “happiness.” Perhaps the alleles for higher IQ can actually reduce your fitness, as well. Oops.

I do better on spatial compared to verbal, no doubt (I *am* a guy after all! teehee) but I have difficulty parsing what you’re trying to get at, a lot of the time. I must have been indoctrinated by feminism (or “modernity,” generally), after all, and find your statements too preposterous to be espoused by anyone or your writing is really esoteric. Come to think of it, these aren’t mutually exclusive. Take it as a compliment, I suppose!

Hardly. First, it’s clearly an ideology of hate, both devoid of serious intellectual underpinning, and unsatisfiable short of all males being dead. Second, as most famous feminists (or their mothers) had particularly ousy marriages before “clicking”, there is much reason to deem feminism not a belief, but a neurosis/psychosis in need of treatment, not a source of anything to which normal people should listen for a moment.

If one simply lacks maternal feeling, it is reasonable to assume that it is a genetic mutation which is counter to the survival of the human race, and it is best that that mutation not be passed on. Conveniently, lacking a desire to reproduce usually *isn’t* passed on, and all the more since we now have the chance to do that while giving up little else. So biology is working as it is supposed to!
It’s why the vast majority of people, and especially women *do* desire to reproduce. But it doesn’t mean that we’ll ever be completely free of people who don’t want kids. Most genetic mutations continue to pop up in low numbers here and there,

I don’t understand why you and others have so much trouble with the idea that some people are not normal, and genuinely don’t want children. That is okay, and if you’re talking genetically, it is good to not have children if you don’t naturally feel like it.

I find it very odd that people have such a problem believing it is possible for someone to simply lack an instinct the majority of the people have, and argue that it is genetically impossible, when the genetics work just as well to explain why it does happen, but only in a small minority of people.

    I am back!

Haha, but slut-shaming weeds out the weak ones! If they’re so prone to getting upset over a bit of slut-shaming, they’re probably the types of attention-seeking sluts that should be avoided.

Hmm…I think a lot of women simply have other goals that prevent them from putting everything into achieving career-related goals, aka being a mother. Just my opinion, but I think that men who are geniuses at arts or literature basically put their heart and soul into it and dedicate their lives to their craft. If you want to be a genius at something, you’ll have to dedicate a whole lot to it and remain passionate throughout your life.

Eh, I like sports. I’ve seen the positive effects it can have on people I know and I can only hope they keep going if that’s what they love and not become morons in the process.

I am originally from one of the Ex-Yugoslavian countries. Does that really make a difference?

Ah, that’s a good way of putting it, thanks Goober.

Of course, I do think people do change in some aspects throughout their lives, but it all comes down to the decisions we make (as you said) and how we handle our choices. But the difference is never something you suddenly feel and then have all the answers to life as an adult…it just happens.

“6. Women survive car accidents more often than men do”

This claim that men have more accidents than women is easily explained, but the explanation is often overlooked because it is simple.
    Men drive more than women.
Whenever, on the many occasions, I have had to wait at a roadside for a bus or whatever, I have taken the trouble to count the number of male and female drivers. Even at school times the number of male drivers outnumbers the female ones by a factor of 2 to 1. More drivers – greater risk factor. Male drivers also tend to dominate the transport industry and therefore are more pressured to make their deliveries as opposed to others who are not working to a schedule. Again, this ups the risk factor.

I found myself realizing a lot of this myself. And I can relate to the frustration. This men vs women bullshit is retarded, it is setting us back. Nature took the course that we are different but equal in worth overall. Made for different roles. Men evolved early on as fighters, hunters, laborers and that translated to innovators and problem solvers, which evolved to inventors, entrepreneurs, leaders, geniuses. But women hold the relationships together that men are fighting to protect and advance. They work well together. Feminism tries to get you to believe we are not different, or that we are not different at least by nature…but history and daily life says different. Maybe a few exceptions here and there, but actual chemical science and brain scans show why that is. Which feminism ignores in place of personal account alone. But science AND personal account combine for a complete “DUH”. Telling us what we already knew: Men and women are different from nature. Designed to be different from the start, yet work together regardless. Until we try to fill each others shoes, then confusion happens, then hate happens, then dysfunction happens, and productions falters as a whole. Only by stubbornly limiting your view can you not see that. And that is what this feminist movement wants you to do in order to prove a point that will never be proved because it is always wrong.

Seriously tired of women blaming the men that fight to defend society and fight to grow society for all of the world’s problems. Blaming them for their own shortcomings and claiming they can do everything better than us but then when they fall short they blame us. When they have the green light and don’t move they blame us. But they still failed, and they still didn’t try and that is for a reason. The truth is brilliant, the truth works, has worked, there are more important issues to address, why are we trying to deny that which is undeniable and making changes that only serve to degrade and slowly destroy us. There are better things we can do with our time and energy, things that make a lot more sense.

Not saying this should not have come up in discussion. But it should’ve only lasted a discussion, not years and years, not growing in popularity even though there is no real evidence to support the faulty the logic amassed in this shameful practice. Men are different not better. Women are different not better. We are best when we accept that and instead of trying to change what has lasted and been reinforced for a couple million years; (just looking at humans, if we talk about evolution of the sexes as a whole, much much longer) just using simple logic looking at body differences and letting roles flesh out all over again–this would all happen AGAIN. So accept it, start thinking how collaboration of the sex better, accept that, and start fucking living! Together! Damn.

I scanned quickly and didn’t see this, I hope I’m not repeating anything, but I read a very interesting study not long ago regarding pain tolerance and early trauma. In the study, they inflicted pain on mice or rats or some other poor beastie in the first days of life, and then measured pain tolerance in adults, and found that the reaction to pain as an adult was more severe in the ones that experienced early trauma. In other words, early trauma lowered life-long pain tolerance.

Cut to human infants, what sort of extremely painful surgical procedure do we inflict on our babies (but only our male ones), without even anesthesia, in the first few days of life?

Rates of circumcision are dropping, but not fast enough to have affected the majority of grown men, at least here in the US.

Could this, also, be a part of why men seem to actually feel pain/discomfort more?

Well I’m a woman and I’ve always felt I was more like a man. I’m not as socially adept as other women, I’m always nervous and look nervous in interviews. I prefer to be alone to figure out my problems, I don’t talk about them to other people. And I like to physically challenge my body (like hiking for several days with a 30-40 lbs back pack over mountain passes). I have no maternal instinct to speak of (never played with baby dolls) babies are a useless burden I never want to carry.

I was not a huge fan of the tone of this article but I must admit your conclusion was fantastic.

I could not agree more that we are simply different, and I fail to see why some have so much difficulty acknowledging that.
