The six ways we talk about a teenage girl’s age is so stupid I almost passed out

5 Sep

Soraya Chemaly, who blogs at Vagenda and regularly contributes to online magazines like Salon is one of those avowed feminist writers who unabashedly begins with the premise that girls are awesome and boys suck, and then openly looks for data to support that preconception, ignoring all evidence that really, as a cognizant human being, ought to give her some pause. I’m not sure if she considers herself a “journalist”, but she makes not even a rudimentary attempt at objectivity when it comes to advocating for her agenda. Or “vagenda”, should we say.

Here she is at Salon, talking about how there is never, ever, under any circumstances, a situation in which a teenage girl might behave in a sexually provocative and proactive manner, and yet still be held culpable for those actions, because no matter how actively or enthusiastically she participated in sexual activity, she is incapable of understanding the implications, and was therefore abused and raped.

Depending on the age of the man involved.

Soraya won’t even touch 19 year old lesbians who continue to contact and proposition their 14year old girlfriends, against direct court orders.

This whole conversation applies to men, and only men. There is some “magical age” at which the man becomes a predator (maybe – I’m speculating – Soraya may believe men are ALL predators no matter what) and absolutely a magical age at which women become capable of determining their own lives (although there are so many caveats to that, we might as well say women NEVER assume responsibility for themselves).

Women must reach the age of consent (whatever that happens to be) in order to consent to sexual activity and a man who is older that the woman by X number of years is always and automatically a predator.

Find X.

Goddamn, feminist math is hard.

Soraya’s entire article is in response to the 49 year old teacher who was sentenced to 30 days in jail for having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old student who subsequently committed suicide. The story is obviously deeply complicated, and uncontrovertibly sad, given that the young woman took her own life.

The full court records have not been released and we do not know the details of this particular case, other than the fact that the judge felt the entire destruction of the man’s life was probably sufficient punishment, and nothing was to be gained from further penalty. The judge also remarked that

the girl seemed older than her years and was “probably as much in control of the situation” as her teacher

Is this true? Who knows? We can either begin with the assumption that the judge hates women with a passion that rivals the adjudicators of the Salem Witch Trials, or we can assume he had some reasonable basis on which to come such a conclusion.

I’m not really interested in discussing the specific case in any detail, other than to point out that the young lady in question is hardly the first person in history to commit suicide after a love affair gone bad, if that is indeed what happened.

No one knows exactly what happened and it is no more outrageous to describe the relationship as a love affair than it is to describe it as unmitigated abuse.

We don’t know what was in her heart.

Soraya takes this sad, muddied case and tries to use it to make the case that all young girls, everywhere, and at all times, are potential victims of evil male sexual predators because we, as a culture, require them to be through a variety of victimizing techniques and strategies, principally the “social construction” of age.

An adolescent girl isn’t allowed to be “her age.” Indeed, she doesn’t actually have one age but many that people assess and judge as she goes through her day. When it comes to sexual assault, consent and justice, an individual girl’s “age” is especially a matter of social construction.

Soraya claims “…society constructs her age in at least six different ways”.

  1. Chronological
  2. Physical maturation
  3. Emotional maturation
  4. Commercial profitability
  5. Media age
  6. Fair game

Let’s examine these in closer detail and then see if the exact same standards apply to ALL the humans, because if they do, then it would seem as though age and aging is a fraught process for BOTH men and women.

Hard to resist banging my head off the wall on the first one, which is just…. Stupid? Idiotic? Completely and utterly retarded? I suppose it’s possible Soraya is making some erudite joke about general relativity, but somehow methinks not.

Chronological age is not socially constructed. Time is not a social construction. The decay rate for carbon atoms does NOT depend on your political affiliations (unless you want to count creationist idiots who think carbon atoms don’t decay at all). While it’s certainly true that the dilation of time will depend on the gravitational field you happen to exist in, I doubt very much that was the kind of plasticity Soraya is referencing.

Something tells me the Einstein Tower is well beyond her little pea-brain.

Feminist physics is also really hard.

Obviously, chronological age applies to everyone and is determined by the curvature of spacetime, not feminist ideology.

The second one is almost as dumb. Signs of physical maturation may be influenced by social conditions (such as a flood of birth control hormones in the water supply) but the actual signs themselves, again, are not determined by social construction.

You can’t delay the development of pubic hair by switching political parties.

You know what is a social construction? Poverty. Class. At the gross level of survival, of course, poverty is not a social construction at all. If you can’t buy enough food to live and you starve to death, you can rightly call yourself impoverished. Well, you can’t, because you’re dead, but you know what I mean.

The poverty threshold in the United States is US$11,344 for a single person under age 65.

The rest of the world gets by on considerably less.

…the global median income is just $1,225 a year, meaning that the world’s emerging middle classes are very far from reaching a level of wealth which would make them well-off by western standards.–You-need-34k-income-global-elite–half-worlds-richest-live-U-S.html

Whether or not you are “poor” depends upon the society you live in.

That is not true when it comes to signs of physical maturation. They are biological processes that can be influenced by environmental factors, but they exist independently of those factors.

Why does it matter? Soraya seems to think that the age a person girl appears to be should have no bearing on how we perceive her, and has, or should have, absolutely no bearing on how she sees herself.

That’s Monika Jagaciak, by the way. She’s 14.

The law tends not to agree with her, making provisions for mistaken age when it comes to the criminalization of sex, based on the understanding that some 14 year olds look and behave considerably older than their years might suggest.

It’s kind of funny that feminists will openly, gleefully celebrate young women who behave in ways much more mature than their ages would suggest when it comes to anything OTHER than sexual activity.

Climbing Mount Everest at 13? Yay! Hooray! 13 year olds are totally capable of understanding and taking those kinds of risks! You go girl!

everest (note that most of the accomplished teenagers in this list are BOYS)

Sail around the world solo? Of course 16 year old girls are capable of evaluating those kinds of perils and assuming sole responsibility for themselves, their choices and their lives.

Fire a gun and hit a target a mile away when you are all of 13 years old? Girls totally have the maturity and responsibility to handle lethal weapons. Duh.

In fact, more girls should get into guns and killing. Animals, obviously.

Although, according to Krista Milburn, the solution to all our problems is simply to kill men. I caution you before you click through to this story that it’s pretty graphic. Krista really does want to abort male babies, enact forced castration and cull the human herd by killing 10% of all the men.

She’s a peach.

So, physical maturation is NOT a social construction. Some girls are physically and emotionally mature far beyond their ages, and that is nothing more than normal human variation.

Of course, all that applies to boys, too. Here is 14 year old Seventh Woods, clocking in at 6 feet 2 inches and playing basketball like a grown man.

Duh. Because as far as biology goes, he IS a grown man. He may acquire a little more muscle as the years go by, but Seventh has likely reached his full physical potential.

How can the media champion a 13 year old climbing Mount Everest and assume she is perfectly capable of understanding what that entails and how dangerous it can be, but if that same girl were to decide she would like to explore Mount Erection, the guy’s a rapist and she is instantly reduced to some barely functioning toddler who doesn’t know she shouldn’t eat gum from under the seat?

Let’s think now about Soraya’s third way we talk about age: emotional maturity. Can young women under the age of consent (which ranges from 16 to 18, depending upon your state) be emotionally mature enough to consent to sex?

Soraya claims that judges do not take emotional maturity into account for any other criminal activity other than sexual assault.

When a 49-year-old provides a 13-year-old alcohol, does a judge take into account how much the 13-year-old may have wanted to drink, or that the 13-year-old can hold his liquor?

This is the part that really made me want to scream. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?!?!?!?!

Have you NEVER, NOT ONCE, ever heard of MINORS BEING TRIED AS ADULTS?!?!?!

I mean really? FOR FUCK’S SAKE!

How in the love of god does this woman get published in major news outlets when she can make such egregiously, patently absurd and false statements? Oh, wait. I’ll bet I know why Soraya doesn’t give one fucking seconds thought to minors tried as adults.

Because they’re mostly boys.

In 2003, 2.2 million arrests were made involving individuals under 18, with the most serious offenses most frequently involving larceny-theft, drug abuse violations, and disorderly conduct.

96% percent were male

And not just boys, but those boys that feminists fear the most: black boys.

A majority of the juvenile defendants were African American (62%).

So boys, especially the black ones, WILL be held morally and legally responsible for their actions, no matter where they fall on the arbitrary age scale.

Remember Lee Boyd Malvo, who went on a shooting spree when he was just 17 years old? He knew what he was doing, and being under the “spell” of an older man did nothing to relieve him of ultimate culpability. He was spared the death penalty, which was the only consolation his age gave him.

His victims, of course, were not so lucky.

Let’s combine all of Soraya’s last three “social constructions of age” into one category. Call of Duty.

At some point in every person’s life, they realize they exist in a broader society, and that they will ultimately be responsible for navigating that society and making choices within the boundaries we’ve all agreed need to be in place to protect us for our own worse impulses. Even so, the guiding principle remains, and MUST remain … freedom.

Freedom doesn’t mean you get to do whatever the hell you want. It sure as hell doesn’t mean you should be free from all consequences. In our society you have freedom TO, and to a limited extent, freedom FROM, but ultimately it comes down to freedom to CHOOSE.

And then you live with your choices. Your age will only mitigate things so far.

And we seem to understand that when it comes to the male members of our society. Indeed, every male in the United States, on his 18th birthday, is forced to confront that his freedom comes with a price. That his life belongs to the state, to use as the state sees fit.

Up to and including ending his life.

Yes, the culture we live in sells a hyper-sexualized version of maturity to BOTH boys and girls. Why? BECAUSE IT FUCKING SELLS!

That seems to be the one thing every commentator in the liberal media consistently ignores. Capitalism would NOT market sexuality to young men and women if it were not a subject of intense interest to them, and it did not translate into PROFITS.

Billions and billions of dollars in profits.

How in the hell can Amanda Marcotte argue at Slate that girls should be permitted to wear clothing so scant it reveals their genitals – that they have the maturity and intelligence and steadiness to navigate the reactions that will provoke, and then turn around and claim that women simply CANNOT be assumed to be making mature, intelligent, steady decisions when it comes to actually having sex?

Jezebel just now is running a piece about how wearing shorts so short the bottom of your ass hangs out is actually a GOOD thing, because it allows all the fat lumpy women to put their asses on display, too.

This cognitive dissonance is deafening. Young women are either capable of handling the expression of their own sexuality (by wearing ass revealing shorts, for example), or they are not. Young women are either perfectly cognizant of the impact their bodies have on others, and have the right to display them and use them in any way they deem fit, or they are not.

You can’t have it both ways.

In Sense and Sensibility, Marianne Dashwood, who is seventeen years old, falls for the dashing Willoughby, who is described as a young man, presumably fairly close in age to Marianne. He turns out to be a dick, and she turns her romantic attentions to someone more appropriate.

Colonel Brandon.

Who is 35.

Yes, they fall in love. And yes, they marry. And no one thinks the slightest thing is untoward about a man of 37 marrying a girl of 19.

I suppose Colonel Brandon should count himself lucky he existed, even if only in literary form, before the likes of Soraya Chemaly came along. She would no doubt have the Colonel strung up on rape charges in about 20 seconds.

And Jane would have been forced to change her novel’s title to Sense and Statutory Rape.

When it comes to young women having sex and being thought capable and sensible, we seem to have gone off the rails completely. Perhaps it’s time to step back into history and take a more practical view.

To The Virgins to Make Much of Time

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,

Old Time is still a-flying:

And this same flower that smiles to-day

To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,

The higher he’s a-getting,

The sooner will his race be run,

And nearer he’s to setting.

That age is best which is the first,

When youth and blood are warmer;

But being spent, the worse, and worst

Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,

And while ye may, go marry:

For having lost but once your prime,

You may for ever tarry.

Robert Herrick

There is no magical moment when you become capable of deciding how, when, where, and with whom you will share your body. That is up to every individual. Statutory rape hysteria doesn’t benefit women, and it sure as hell doesn’t benefit men.

It’s a weapon feminists use to incarcerate men for the unforgiveable sin of loving younger women.

But they’re up against human nature, which is awfully tough to defeat. They would probably all be better off tackling those lumpy asses they insist on shoving into short-shorts.

Those shorts are the ones being raped, if you ask me.

Lots of love,

    Well said, JB, well said!

The 13-year-old who climbed the everest is a boy, Jordan Romero. The name and the blond curly hair are confusing, I’ll admit. The snippet states that he did it with his father and his girlfriend, so she’s probably able to share the glory of their combined achievements though. But the article mentions him, not her, so it’s either a patriarchal ploy or, (more likely), the girlfriend is a bit older and therefore the media pick the youngest, or it was his idea and he’s the one who made all the preparations.

Anyway, in the article, ALL the teens mentions are boys, except one, the last one, an 18 year old girl who became a college professor. Not to detract from he accomplishment, but all the other teens have done something out of the ordinary, while her claim to fame is that she did what millions of people do on this planet, just *faster* than everyone else. The links mention her having a B.Sc. in applied math, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in material sciences and engineering. But instead of doing something outstanding with it, she prefers to teach, a very conventional and safe choice, and dare I say “feminine”.

Oh come on. We really could have done without that last picture!

  4. aspasialibertine September 5, 2013 at 18:11 #

I’m not one to demand trigger warnings, but that last picture absolutely needs one. My lunch went all over the place! lol

    Also, good post overall.

  5. judgybitch September 5, 2013 at 18:13 #

    OMG, you’re right!

I’m going to leave it as is, because it’s such an interesting commentary in and of itself. Search for accomplished teenagers, and boys outnumber girls by a wide, wide margin.

It’s relatively easy to find boys of very young ages who have accomplished extraordinary things, and much more difficult to find girls who have similar claims to make.

The dearth of accomplished girls and their relative scarcity only means they are celebrated for their maturity and responsibility that much more loudly.

You still won’t hear the media claiming girls are too delicate and fragile to be capable of the feat of X or Y or Z.

But when it comes to sex, cue up the victim train!

  6. judgybitch September 5, 2013 at 18:14 #

    No sympathy!

That was one of the tame ones.

Google “fat woman in small shorts”.

    Eye bleach!!

The sacrifices I make for y’all!

  7. aspasialibertine September 5, 2013 at 18:15 #

Damn you, woman! LOL! I saw a similar one on the People of Wal-Mart blog. I was honestly surprised that her legs weren’t blue from lack of circulation.

Before I can read any further than the first paragraph, I have to stop and ask: what self-respecting adult woman who wants to be taken seriously be any other adult human being with an IQ north of 10 would be caught dead contributing to something called “Vagenda?”

Can you imagine a man writing for something called “Penimperative” or “Penisuperiority?”

    C’mon now…

  9. judgybitch September 5, 2013 at 19:35 #

Oh, Vagenda is just terrible stuff. Really, really awful. Special snowflake sobbing over the tiniest degree of accountability extraordinaire!

But the writers are all picked up in mainstream media!

No one flinches at such tragic, hateful writing.

It will be a cold day in hell before Salon ever publishes any of my stuff, but I hope I’m opening to door a crack for a more moderate writer to get the message through.

  10. Emcee September 5, 2013 at 19:37 #

Okay, this is probably going to be a long one, so bear with me. Here goes.

Last week, you did a very good article on #solidarityisforwhitewomen, in which you credited Mikki Kendall for creating the hashtag.

I ended up following Kendall as a result.

The reason I bring this up is that, a few days later, Betsy Karasik wrote an article for HuffPo commenting on the Rambold case.

In it, she says that student-teacher coitus should not be criminalized, and that the notion that such a relationship is essentially abuse or rape is a “fantasy that a high school student can’t consent to sex”.

Kendall, who was, as a child, a victim of abuse by an older man, took Karasik to task on Twitter. Kendall tweeted:

“I was 12 when the grooming happened. It was a much older family friend & he said all the same things as @PaintsNature.”

“Abusers will find those kids who are starved emotionally & offer everything. Attention, affection, and then they ask the kid to pay for it.”

“They want the kid to reciprocate. Or at least let them show them how good it could be. And then when it feels good? The kid is culpable too.”

“Many of us didn’t report because of people like @PaintsNature making excuses for abusers. We already know what you think of us.”

Here’s the thing: some kids WILL have fantasies about and be sexually attracted to teachers. That, in itself, is fine. Sometimes that’s just hormones talking. Sometimes it’s something far darker, like previous abuse. But until we get past that point in our lives, prior abuse or no, we really can’t know any better. But you know who should know better? The adult. The teacher. They know exactly what they’re doing when they have relationships/sex with young teens and students. That is an abuse of power, bottom line, and it is wrong, and it can be extremely harmful. The adult has the power to prevent this shit from happening.

Sex is fine. But teens should be consenting to have sex with each other, where the power is more or less equalized – not with adults, not when they’re likely to be taken advantage of, whether or not that is the intention.

I think that Soraya Chemaly is a tremendous tit for trying to spin this into the all-men-are-abusers-all-women-are-victims narrative, and I know that the purpose of your article is largely to counter that.

However, JB… when you say that, “we can either begin with the assumption that the judge hates women with a passion that rivals the adjudicators of the Salem Witch Trials, or we can assume he had some reasonable basis on which to come such a conclusion”, I think you are distracting from the real issue, which is that we are holding kids – not just men, not just women, KIDS – responsible for what the adults should ultimately own.

You say, “no one thinks the slightest thing is untoward about a man of 37 marrying a girl of 19,” and that’s because a 19 year-old is much older that a 14 year-old. Both the 19 year-old and 37 year-old are adults, a 14 year-old is not

Just to be clear, I’m not saying that boys can’t be victims (and Kendall makes a point of being gender-neutral as well). They very much are, and examples of this are only a google search away.

Anyway, I think this post is quite long enough.

  11. feeriker September 5, 2013 at 19:58 #

It will be a cold day in hell before Salon ever publishes any of my stuff

While the exposure would certainly be great, just look at the bright side: think of the embarrassment you’ll be saved by not having your name associated with that sorry creature.

  12. Marlo Rocci September 5, 2013 at 19:58 #

One point: The issue really is that they are interested in sending to jail men in general who don’t meet specific qualifications of wealth and beauty. Statutory rape is simply one of the current avenues. But it really all boils down to being undateable. simply asking a woman out on a date can land you in civil court for sexual harassment already. But we will eventually reach a point where women ask for men to be incarcerated simply for being “creepy”.

I do have a concern in that if all the college aged women are taught to be so angry at men that they become undateable, the sexual pressure then falls on younger women. Another example of feminism harming women.

But if I were a father, I would be working to keep my 13 year old off both Mt. Everest and Mt. Erection. WTF was that father thinking? (or was he present in her life?)

  13. Wallace Black September 5, 2013 at 20:10 #

Well, I for one thoroughly enjoyed Soraya Chemaly’s diatribe last week on how horrible the idea of ‘sexy robots’ are.

  14. Jeremy September 5, 2013 at 20:15 #

An adolescent girl isn’t allowed to be “her age.” Indeed, she doesn’t actually have one age but many that people assess and judge as she goes through her day. When it comes to sexual assault, consent and justice, an individual girl’s “age” is especially a matter of social construction.

How absurd that she cannot see that the “social” construction of a girls age hinges entirely on the fact that many selfish women seek as much privilege early as they can while shunning responsibility. The contradictions in age are a direct result of females avoiding responsibility for female action for as long as they possibly can. They claim immaturity and weakness at ridiculously mature ages and then cry when people treat them like “just a girl” after having pretended to be young, stupid, and incapable.

Of course, all that applies to boys, too. Here is 14 year old Seventh Woods, clocking in at 6 feet 2 inches and playing basketball like a grown man….Duh. Because as far as biology goes, he IS a grown man. He may acquire a little more muscle as the years go by, but Seventh has likely reached his full physical potential.

I don’t know of any men who were done growing taller at age 14. He’ll likely be growing until he’s 17-18, and that means close to 7′ tall if not taller. He’ll be huge.

Soraya claims that judges do not take emotional maturity into account for any other criminal activity other than sexual assault.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! What a moron, and I don’t use that term lightly. Soraya is claiming pure nonsense as fact. She’s deliberately blinding herself to reality to make an argument that is both obtuse and self-serving. I actually don’t know what Soraya’s race is right now, but I’m going to take a stab at it… she’s a white woman! Am I right?

    Ooh, I was right…

This all falls down to more of the same. Feminists rebuilding the mound of perceived weakness and non-agency in the female gender. Women are portrayed as handicapped and incapable of making decisions, until they’re not, and then when they do they’re better than men, and if they’re not better than men, it’s because patriarchy.

  15. judgybitch September 5, 2013 at 20:16 #

I take issue with the idea that ALL teenagers having sex with legal adults are automatically abused victims exploited by mentally stable, consciously predatory grown-ups.

These kids you refer to will eventually grow up and BE the adults, and what’s to say the circumstances can’t be reversed, and clever students will take advantage of the adult’s need for affection and confirmation?

Is it really so hard to believe that I teenage girl could not take advantage of an older man longing to relive his youth and that the same girl couldn’t figure out just how to exploit his vulnerability?

There is a word for teenage girls who do precisely that in Japan:

    Enjo kosai

    It means “compensated dating.

Sex between adult men and teenage girls for the mutual benefit of both parties, which takes for granted that both parties can, and do benefit.

  16. judgybitch September 5, 2013 at 20:24 #

Interesting. All my brothers reached their full heights of around six feet tall when they were quite young. They got stronger, but not taller.

But I’ll take your word for it. Seventh is gonna be huge!

  17. Jeremy September 5, 2013 at 21:08 #

There have been cases where NBA players have gained ~1 inch of height, while in the NBA.

  18. Goober September 5, 2013 at 23:16 #

I kind of liked that avfm link with the little genocidal blonde honey in it. I liked it because it is a common theme with many femsupremacist sites:

“Rise up and fight against men!”

As if men so threatened wouldn’t have every woman involved dead or chained to a radiator in a matter of a few minutes
How deluded are these women that they don’t see that ALL of their privilege is due to the fact that men like them as companions rather than slaves?

  19. Goober September 5, 2013 at 23:17 #

I didn’t make my full height until my mid 20s

  20. Marlo Rocci September 5, 2013 at 23:26 #

Oh Noes! that’s Lookism!. or is it Fatshaming? So hard to know what specific kind of bigotry I’m supposed to be engaging in these days. the labels change so often.

  24. stuart September 6, 2013 at 00:28 #

When will you Americans realise you are crazy? I am a simple man who grew up in a rural part of England. Since then I have travelled around the world and seen cultures of every description, but nothing comes close to our ‘western views of life’ Women and men always find a balance and the natural instincts of us humans always works out. Except in the US. There it seems the dominating voice is always the nut cases. Why is this?

  25. aspasialibertine September 6, 2013 at 00:30 #

    That explains a lot.

  26. stuart September 6, 2013 at 01:12 #

How can I agree with this comment and stay a western liberal man? The truth is your comment is so damned true and the sad part is I see women as equals. Help!

    Rape Culture and/or the Heteropatriarchy.

  28. RedPillOverdose September 6, 2013 at 03:46 #

Those shorts are being raped right along with our eyeballs. Another phallophobic feminist from the sound if it. and that damn Jezebel, i would rather drink gasoline and piss on a brushfire than see any of that underbutt..ewwww!

  29. Spaniard September 6, 2013 at 08:54 #

That fattie, with the tatoo, I would bang her hard!

  30. Spaniard September 6, 2013 at 09:00 #

Stuart, I love English countrygirls. So damn sexy they are. With that healthy roses in their cheeks, that solid structures… OooH….I am a big fan of the “Roger Crumb type of girl”. And that type you can find in England in rural areas so much.
Engilsh women are funny and friendly, it is true that they are very feminists, but, in the good way, my opinion. Girls just want to have fun, and work and being independent. I do not think they want to emasculate men at all.

  31. Spaniard September 6, 2013 at 09:01 #

The younger woman I have been with, she was 19. And I was 18.
Usually I go more for the “oldies”: 30 plus.

The antifeminist thinks that the girl probably committed suicide BECAUSE of the commotion about the case.

Human-Stupidity agrees with the antifeminist, that the sex laws traumatize minors.

Remember the British teacher who fled with this 15 year old student to France? She cried when he got 5 years in jail and said she would wait for him. So much for protection of minors.

If it were not for modern laws, the girl would not even know she was a victim of consensual “rape”. All the media circus, police action, public exposure of her sex life, shaming etc

Due to financial interest of the mother, getting money from teacher and school, she would, of course, never admit that she herself contributed to traumatizing her daughter to the point of committing suicide.

It is also typical that troubled girls are sexually more precocious. Evolutionary theory explains that you better get your offspring asap, if you are in unstable life circumstances. Presence of fathers also helps control girl’s sexuality.

Judgy bitch is a staunch defender of men. In comparison, avoiceformen is totally in favor of increasing male prison terms. Who protects men from MHRA?

  34. Nicky September 6, 2013 at 12:47 #

Yeah, in favour of increasing the prison term of a man who got treated leniently in a statutory rape case, thus using the massive attention that case got to shine a light on the common occurance of lenient sentencing for women in similar circumstances. It would be hypocritical in the extreme to think this man deserves a ‘penis pass’ from the MHRA, while complaining about the ‘pussy pass’ society gives female teachers who seduce their pupils.

By recognizing that there are differences between women and men, you aren’t contradicting your desire to see women and men as equals one bit. You are just understanding the truth of the situation.

I do not think that “different” precludes “equal” at all. People do not have to be exactly the same in order to be equals. Your progressive cred is safe with me, friend.

That doesn’t change the fact that, even though I see women as equals, that if it ever came down to women, as a group, deciding to commit mass violence against men, as a group, that they wouldn’t even get their first punch thrown before they were crushed.

Such is the case on a individual level, also. Pick me any random man off the street, vs. any random woman off the street, and you’ve got 10 to 1 (or even better?) odds the guy could ruin her in the first round. This has been the case since the dawn of humanity, and the fact is that men have decided, throughout most of history, to allow women to be their companions instead of their slaves, even though the latter, horrifying as it is, could easily have been accomplished at any time.

Women such as the one in the AVFM article would do well to remember these facts when they spout off their nonsense. I, along with millions of other men, would risk my life to save her if I saw her in peril on the street, despite the fact that I could just as easily put her in peril, myself. I don’t expect gratitude for that, but her not openly fomenting my murder or castration is probably not asking too much.

  37. Goober September 6, 2013 at 14:44 #

People like to think that they are smarter than everyone else. They like to look at the last 20,000 years of human history and be the one to point at that and say “you’ve been doing it wrong.”

These feminists love to think that they are so much smarter than the every other human being who has lived throughout history, that they see a more novel, better way of doing things that all the other people have somehow missed. It is pure, unbridled arrogance. Not to try and poke you in your eye, but folks like you that self-identify as “liberal” are pretty horrible about this, too. I don’t know you, so I won’t make that assumption, but I am pointing it out for you to seriously consider as you move forward.

The problem is that none of their ideas are new. They’ve all been discussed and tried over the course of millennia. Queen Victoria commented on changing of gender roles hundreds of years ago. Philosophers from ancient times considered the idea and dismissed it as being preposterous. Feminists sneer at these people as if they are just old, outdated fuddy-duddies that ought to be ignored, but then they go ahead and commit the same mistakes that the fuddy-duddies said they were going to commit as they go along.

Spaniard has a good quote about changing gender roles and how it will succeed in only bringing out women’s “inner prostitute” and voila! We have article on top of article about women using their sex to manipulate men out of money, blowing men in front of 80,000 people, and celebrating being sluts.

None of these things are healthy for humanity, society, or the individual involved, and yet feminists think that they are all great because they think that they are somehow smarter than reality.

Why this is an American trend, I do not know, but I can speculate several reasons:

    1. Life has gotten pretty easy for us here, so we have to work to find problems to complain about. We are so busy not worrying about having enough food, clean water, sanitation, and so forth, that we’ve got spare time to create beefs where none would exist if we didn’t have enough of those things;
    2. We are a country formed by individualists who came here because they thought that they could do it better than they did in the old world. That attitude has continued to the present day and has become a bit more hubristic and arrogant as it becomes more and more removed from the folks who actually used it to good ends so many years ago.

But that is just speculation. I honestly don’t know why so many people have been deluded into thinking that gender roles are a bad thing, as opposed to the niches into which we will find the most happiness. I understand that there are exceptions to every rule, and disagree totally with gender roles being mandatory – Our society can easily make room for outliers, as it has for two-hundred years now. I just hate the idea that gender roles are being sneered at by pseudo-intellectuals who are really drooling morons, when they are really the best pathway to happiness and satisfaction for most people.

Teacher Sex with 14 Year Old: 40 year Prison in USA, Acquittal in Germany

    Morality is not equal everywhere.

Isn’t it strange? murder is a crime everywhere. But having sex with a willing 16 year old, or worse, a 16 year old that took the initiative, is a crime in some places, and totally normal elsewhere.

Just as a woman without a head scarf is a crime in some places, and normal elsewhere.

I am sure many mhra activists will join feminists in their quest to get more German men punished for *consensual sexual offenses

Sorry for spamming you with too much stuff here, but it all perfectly fits your topic here.

Child Sex Trauma Theory Traumatizes Children (#6)

Tea Abuse: How a traumatic event impacts children depends on how the adults cope with it. (MRA Angry Harry)

Balkanized Men’s Rights Movement vehemently supports feminist sex hysteria. MRA easily defeated by feminist unity (#5)

MRA against men! Most MRA (men’s rights activist) actively support draconian prison sentences for men #4

Consult a lawyer before playing doctor. Perverse sex laws traumatize children.

  39. human2stupidity September 6, 2013 at 14:57 #

There are only a few bloggers, who think all this adolescent sex hysteria should be scrapped totally.

Who think the rare women should not be punished in order for women to wake up about the frequent punishment of men.

Angry Harry, Eivind Berge, antifeminist, human stupidity and a few more.

After all, in relationships men tend to be a few years older, so men are getting ensnared by these laws.

I also keep stressing: it is legit if you want to keep your minor daughter away from certain guys.

But do you need the force of government to punish the guy, to give him as many years in prison as many murderers, for having yielded to a young girl’s advances?

it is amazing, women who drink when pregnant and give birth to a permanently disfigured and severely damaged fetal alcohol syndrome baby, these are not punished.

Do you really thing a 15 year old suffers more damage then that, from consensual sex?

  40. human2stupidity September 6, 2013 at 15:10 #

in the last 100 000 years, women were attracted to men more powerful then they themselves.

This power differential gibberish is another feminist invention.

    Women long for powerful men.

There was an article about powerful women in China, who can not find a husband, because there is no one they can marry up to. They already are at the top.

  41. Nicky September 6, 2013 at 16:27 #

I think it’s the teacher abusing their poition of authority that makes it a crime, tbh. I’m English. A 16 year old here can go out and screw a 45 year old and that’s legal. But if that 45 year old is ALSO their teacher, that does change things. No, I’m not particularly bothered whether or not about consentual sex with a teenager is considered a crime. I do think consentual sex with a teenager is VERY different from rape, and should be treated as a totally different crime. I AM bothered about the idea that an article suggesting men and women ought to be treated the same under the law is problematic, and that men need ‘protecting’ from this.

  42. Anonymous age 71 September 6, 2013 at 17:45 #

Historically, affluent families did not consider their children truly educated until they lived in a different culture for several years. I can tell you honestly I learned more about American society since I started visiting and living in Mexico, than during my entire life in the USA. It may antagonize some that I am writing this in the first person, but that is how I learned these things. That is, my personal experience is the only way I can tell it.

Before the White Knights call me all sorts of names, starring with PERVERT, let me make it clear that I have been faithful to my wife for all 38 years of marriage. The fact that a woman has hit on me is not my personal sin.

As an example, anything about marriage beyond a man and woman believing they are husband and wife, and the people around them accepting that, is a social construct. I was so indoctrinated that marriage is something the government ALLOWS you to do, (Oh, please masters, grant me a boon!) that when I learned how common Free Union was in Mexico that it grossed me out. Now, I understand no couple is more married than the couple which believes it is married. Ditto for divorce.

This is the way things once were. Look up Rachel and Leah in the Old Testament. No marriage license. No priest.

Age of Consent after puberty is also a social construct. The USA has not only decreed a minimum age, based solely on political activity, rather than real concerns. But, also claims for all citizens and residents, that their choice for AOC applies to every square inch of the planet no matter what local laws say.

A year or two ago an idiot writer for the NYT wrote that in Mexico the AOC is 12. Did I call her an idiot?

In fact, AOC is complex in Mexico. Up until age 12 (menarche in a very few states) the prosecutor is OBLIGED to press criminal charges against older men who have sex with that child.

After age 12, the prosecutor is PROHIBITED from initiating criminal charges against the culprit, unless the girl or her parents/guardians apply for charges to be filed. That allows the two families to deal with the issue appropriately. And, I guarantee you, Mexicans do not suffer from the feminist insanity that young girls have no libido, nor are incapable of knowing and understanding what they are doing. If a young, post-12 year old has sex, and there is no evidence of forcible rape, most parents will hold her responsible.

Right in my neighborhood, lives a 47 year old married woman. Thirty-five years ago, when she was 12, she got pregnant with a 25 year old man. The families got together, and she said, yes, she wanted to be his woman, and cook for him and take care of the children. And, he said, yes, he would be her man, and he would go to work every day and support her and the child. No long prison sentence; no sex offender registry; no six kids by 400 men; no welfare checks; no future convicts because of no father. They raised 3 children to be prosperous and productive adults.

I am guessing she went to live with his parents, and her MIL had to teach her domestic skills and bring her up to be a functional wife, that’s how things are done here.

And, her friends got the message that if they get pregnant, they will have to be a housewife, no more childhood fun or games. A win-win situation.

Similar views here on differences of age between men and women. I am an ordinary American beta, which meant it was a miracle I got married once, not to mention twice. And, women simply did not hit on me in the US. Ever.

I began to realize I was in a different culture when a gorgeous 20 something asked her friend to see if I wanted her as a mistress. I responded by playing dumb, and pretending I didn’t understand her Spanish. But, I did have chills for at least a week. Unbelievable.

I talked to my best friend, a very intelligent woman in her Fifties. She said, “Do you think this is strictly about money or papers?”

I said, “Of course! Whey would a young woman like that be interested in ME?”

She said, “A lot of young women here have never been more than half an hour from here. They know you are an educated man. And, they know when you leave here for a month, you travel all over the USA. To a country girl, you are a very sophisticated man.”

Then, I learned a 14 year old girl had fallen head over heels in love with me. I was to say the least panicky. My friend told me, “Treat her as you always do, and she will eventually outgrow it. But, she will never forget you. And, she will have learned what to look for in a husband. That is what happened to me at that age when I fell in love with an older teacher, so I know.”

It hurt my feelings later when her mother started making it hard for my wife and me to visit them. Until I realized the mother was not worried about ME. As I said, parents here suffer from no illusions about their daughters.

A local rich guy was 78 when his child by a 20 year old woman was born. There was no scandal over this. Everyone understood both of them got what they wanted, no further discussion needed.

Time is not a social construction.

To feminists, everything is a social construct of the patriarchy. Including time. I mean chronological age is just a number, right? And numbers were made up by men and are totally socially constructed. I’ve heard that at the next International Year of the Woman conference, a resolution will be adopted to add a new number “Gyne” between three and four, which are capitalist numbers anyway.

Even gravity will bend to the will of feminist ideology. After all, what is gravity but a force, and force=oppression and oppression is completely an invention of the patriarchy and must be crushed.

  47. judgybitch September 6, 2013 at 18:42 #

won’t you need gravity to actually do the crushing?

  48. Black Poison Soul September 6, 2013 at 19:47 #

Argh. That last picture. Nooooooo! My eyes were raped…

Sadly, when it comes to all this stuff about men and women and sexism/patriarchy – it has been said umpteen times already. While we keep repeating and repeating this, it sometimes feels like beating on a dead horse – and they STILL pull out garbage non-stats like the number of rapes.

If I could do one thing in this world, I would electroshock everyone who pulls out that lie.

Men are total idiots who can’t do anything right. Until they get a younger girlfriend. Then the evil genuises.

  50. JBfan September 6, 2013 at 21:01 #

It’s a basic lack of understanding of age gaps and maturity. I’m not a huge fan of Hugh Hefner (not because he actually DATES and SLEEPS WITH younger women, but there comes a point at which one tends to overdo it too much for good taste), but if she is OVER the age of consent, there is bugger all wrong with it. In the acting profession for instance, younger men get fewer decent roles than younger women, but make up for it by getting the better and more prestigious roles once they mature, while the women their age are superceded by younger starlets. (Of course, you get a lot of “its not fair” bellyaching from older female thesps but I take this as a case of sour grapes most of the time.) A woman hits her peak earlier, but maintains it for less time, while a man hits his peak later but maintains it for longer (I’m talking about age, not sexual performance :p) Methinks these imbeciles should be reminded of this basic biology?

  51. feeriker September 6, 2013 at 21:14 #

Thanks for sharing. You are correct; there is NOTHING like living in a foreign country for an extended period of time to make you appreciate the differences in the world and its cultures (and, if you’re an American, to make you realize what a hopelessly terminal state your own country is in).

If this were any blog other than JB’s, frequented by any other sort of readership (i.e., one consisting mostly of people who have never been anywhere other than their own back yard), I would await a feminist backlash to what you’ve posted. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that here.

  52. Goober September 6, 2013 at 23:24 #

Everything that you discussed above is so common sense that it just boggles my mind that we make it so damn complicated here.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, it was very informative.

  53. Goober September 6, 2013 at 23:29 #

Oh, yes – the marriage thing…

I have never understood how we let our government get control of who-marries-whom, but I hate it with a passion. Why is it any of their business? Why should we have to ask their permission?

On the whole gay marriage thing – I’ve been saying for ten years now that they’re asking the wrong questions and fighting the wrong fight – they are asking permission from the government to get married. I think they are asking the wrong question. They, AND WE, ought to be asking why the fuck we should have to ask permission in the first place….

  54. Oscar Calme September 7, 2013 at 00:21 #

Disagree with you on protecting women Goober. Why is it any man’s responsibility to risk your life to protect a woman. Would you do the same for any man? If so I would tip my hat to you.

If it was a woman I knew well then I would try to rescue her from peril but not an unknown woman. I had an employee end up with a tail comb in his ribs from a woman he tried to rescue from being beaten up by her boyfriend. A valuable lesson for me there and have stuck by it ever since.

Maybe, but she is 14 in that picture.

  57. Ally September 8, 2013 at 11:30 #

Yes, she is 🙂 I love this website. It’s pretty conforting to know I’m not the only one not buying into this whole feminism thing (especially over at Jezebel’s).

  58. NoName September 11, 2013 at 07:10 #

Not all feminists view the age of consent laws as just. For instance, Simone de Beauvoir wanted to abolish the age of consent laws. There is also an excellent article written by Heather Corinna, called “Rage of Consent”:

I will leave you with a quote:
“There can be no justice so long as laws are absolute. Life itself is an exercise in exceptions.”
    – Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise.

The cognitive dissonance is astounding, as is the lack of journalistic integrity this Slate slut displayed in her ‘article’.

How can the wise triumph over idiocy, when the idiots are considered unassailable paragons of virtue, while the wise are named anachronistic scumbags?
