People need to stop being dicks on the subway by taking up way too much space. Oh wait. No, just men need to stop doing that. More equality!

16 Sep

I’m a bit cranky today, owing to the fact that I am suffering from a wicked head cold thanks to the filthy, germ-ridden little creatures who live here with me.  Kindergarten plague. Ugh.  Even so, this tumblr has pissed me off royally.  It’s called Men Taking Up Too Much Space on the Train.

bag guy

http://mentakingup2muchspaceonthetrain.tumblr.com/

Having spent a good deal of time on public transportation in Shanghai, Melbourne, Manchester, Toronto, Athens and Seattle, I know a bit about how to travel with a few manners.  I also know how to travel with a modicum of sense when it comes to protecting personal belongings.  And when I looked at these pictures, for the most part, I saw people taking reasonable precautions not to get their bags stolen, and not to trip people moving past them.

bags2

Almost all the men taking up too much space have large bags or backpacks between their feet, meaning that A) they aren’t taking up the seat next to them, and B) they can smush the bags against the lower portion of the seat so that people walking by don’t get tangled up in the straps.

bags 3

Why is this even an issue?  Well, duh, it’s because people men who sit with their legs apart and bags between them are trying to send a message to fellow travellers that they have really big dicks and that the entire world needs to stop spinning on its axis and accommodate said ginormous dicks.

fuck you week

Maybe these fucking idiots think we women are impressed when they act like their penis is so fucking big that they can’t even try to make room for you next to them on the bench. Because if there’s one thing we ladies like, it’s a monster dick the size of yule log (Happy Holidays!) and a man who won’t offer us a seat because it makes him slightly uncomfortable.

Anyway, these dudes aren’t going anywhere. They’ve been around forever (your pilgrim dick is not that big) and they’ll stay around forever (your cyborg dick doubles as a gun), so all we — women, children, the vast majority of men who understand the basic concepts of space and sitting down — can do is quietly rage and occasionally work up the courage to ask you to move your fucking legs. But that doesn’t mean we’re not glaring at you with the power of a thousand fuck yous when we see you treat the service that we all pay the equal amount to use like it’s your own fucking castle. Trust us, the major dick here is not in your pants — it’s you. You’re the fucking dick, so close your legs or go fuck yourself.

That little screed was part of the delightful Fuck You Week at Jezebel, and demonstrates the usual level of vitriol, bitterness, stupidity and hate we have come to expect from the ladies at good ole Jez.

http://jezebel.com/5967972/fuck-you-dudes-who-sit-with-their-legs-spread-so-wide-that-they-take-up-two-seats-your-dick-is-not-that-big

Because you KNOW it’s only ever men who sit with their legs apart on the tube, right?

women

And women never, ever keep their bags between their feet.

train

And they certainly never collapse over into someone else’s seat.

Fat woman in subway, Fat Frau in U-Bahn, Grosse femme dans le métro, Tlustá ¸ena v metru

Nor do they ever take up an inordinate amount of space giving each other pedicures on the fucking train.

women 7

They never fall alseep with their legs splayed.

women6

And they never, ever sport asses so huge they have little choice but to take up two seats.

bus 3

They don’t take up the seat next to them with their bags.

bus 2

Women never carry giant bags you just know are gonna end up shoved in someone’s crotch.

backpack

They don’t spread out their legs at the bus stop, cramming Doritos (or whatever healthy snack that is) into their fat maws while airing out the lady cave for passerbys.  Nope.  That neeeeeeeever happens.

park

This kind of idiocy and first world problem bullshit makes me so angry because it seems deliberately designed to encourage women to get on trains or other forms of public transportation, ignore all the women doing the EXACT SAME FUCKING THINGS, and just spend the journey “leaning in” to perfect their hatred of men.

It irritates me because there is no reason for it. Everyone can be as asshole on the train or bus, and sometimes the things that we consider “asshole” behaviour actually have a pretty good reason behind them.  One of my pet peeves is parents with monster strollers on public transportation.  Or anywhere for that matter.  Strollers are not required.  The number of times I took a stroller on public transportation and forced other people to trip and squish themselves against an ugly, wheeled monstrosity:  ZERO!

Hello, baby sling.

baby sling

Strollers are not required equipment, and taking them on public transportation makes most of the stroller brigade assholes.

Now, having said that, I travelled with Pixie on public transportation with 5 year old LittleBear in one of those gigantic jogging strollers that everyone had to contort themselves to get around.  LittleBear has had his abdominal muscles cut through 63 TIMES, and he isn’t very good at standing up on the subway, so fuck all the haters – he was in a super comfy stroller that maximized his comfort and forced everyone else into some momentary discomfort.

stroller

So sad, too bad.  LittleBear had a good reason to be in stroller.  Most kids have no reason.  Their parents are just dicks.

It happens.  People are assholes.  They act as though the whole damn world belongs to them, and everyone else should just put up and shut up.  What this tumblr blog is claiming is that MEN, and ONLY MEN are assholes on public transportation, and that really, really annoys me.

I don’t know if it’s just because I’m in a really foul mood today owing to the fact that I despise being colonized by the snot virus, but it seems to me that the level of hate has been ratcheted up a notch lately.  Hannah Roisin, in a recent Slate column, proclaimed that the patriarchy is dead, and that it serves little purpose for women to continue to blame their problems on a nebulous at best entity that hasn’t been in evidence in North America for at least the last 70 years.

Marble Gravestone

http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2013/09/the_end_of_men_why_feminists_won_t_accept_that_things_are_looking_up_for.html

Critics responded by creating a list of 39 things the “patriarchy” is responsible for, including vajazzling, juice cleanses, cardio pole-dancing, peak fertility and the fact that women can’t seem to nail down those pesky Nobel Prizes in any meaningful category.

http://nymag.com/thecut/2013/09/39-things-well-miss-about-patriarchy.html

Yeah, peak fertility is totally the fault of patriarchy.  And so are cupcake shaped vibrators.  Totally rapey patriarchy.

cupcake

http://jezebel.com/cutesy-vibrators-rub-us-the-wrong-way-754942907

Really? That’s your fucking argument?  You’re oppressed by vibrators shaped like cupcakes?

Meanwhile, in the real news, boys continue to slide behind girls in academic achievements, which has profound consequences for our whole society and economy because boys are the ones who grow up to actually MAKE SHIT THAT WE USE.   You know, when they’re not cooling off their gonads on the train.

The achievement gap has life and death consequences for working class men, and men of color, in particular.

“Nearly half of young men of color age 15 to 24 who graduate from high school will end up unemployed, incarcerated or dead.”

Nearly half!   We are throwing away nearly half of our young men of color and the shape of your vibrator is the key issue feminists want addressed?

fuck off

http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2013/09/how-to-make-school-better-for-boys/279635/

It’s not like the problem is even difficult to remedy.  Bring back vocational and technical training at the high school level – areas of education traditionally dominated by boys, who have this weird little quirk that makes them want to DO USEFUL SHIT.

shop class

The American system for preparing young people to lead productive and prosperous lives as adults is clearly badly broken.

Failure to aggressively overcome this challenge will surely erode the fabric of our society. The American Dream rests on the promise of economic opportunity, with a middle class lifestyle for those willing to work for it. Yet for the millions of young Americans entering adulthood lacking access to marketable skills, the American Dream may be just an illusion, unlikely ever to come within their grasp. If we fail to better prepare current and future teens and young adults, their frustration over scarce and inferior opportunities is likely to grow, along with economic inequality. The quality of their lives will be lower, the costs that they impose on society will be higher, and many of their potential contributions to society will go unrealized. This is a troubling prospect for any society and almost certainly a recipe for national decline.

http://www.gse.harvard.edu/news_events/features/2011/Pathways_to_Prosperity_Feb2011.pdf

For all the impressive gains women have made in education and labor force participation, they are incapable of preventing national decline, and indeed, may even be hastening it.

Girls don’t typically grow up to do useful shit that we NEED as an economy and society to survive.  Boys are the ones who grow into the men who do the hard, dirty, difficult, challenging work of creating our machines and keeping them running.  Work that typically doesn’t take place in an air-conditioned office, and tends to be hell on manicures.

The skilled trades sector is in precipitous decline, with few workers in the pipeline to replace the aging workforce.

The majority of those workers are men, and no doubt, will continue to be men, who express more interest in the skilled trades than women.

employment sector

http://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2009/jan/wk1/art03.htm

We’re throwing away half of our young men of color, denying all young men the opportunity to learn the skills they need to contribute to society in the way they WANT TO which happens to coincide with the way we NEED them to, and the problem we’re gonna talk about is that they take up too much space on the trains?

The trains that men designed?

Most engineers are men.

http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/seind12/pdf/c03.pdf

That men built?

Most manufacturing, especially heavy manufacturing jobs are held by men.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2012/05/03/151282913/what-america-s-women-do-for-work

That men drive?

Most train conductors are men. In fact, the 2010 census shows 0% of women working as locomotive engineers, which means there are a few, but not enough to reach 1% of the total workforce.

http://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat11.htm

That men maintain?

rails

Another 0% of women work as railroad brake, signal, and switch operators, while a whopping 6% of conductors and yardmasters are women.

http://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat11.htm

I have an idea.  How about until we have a rail line with trains that were designed by women, built by women, maintained by women, driven by women –  how about women shut the fuck up about how much space men take up on the train?

And try taking up a little less space yourself.

women 5

And perhaps, just perhaps, we should start talking about just who is going to continue to run our national transportation network when we throw all our public resources into educating more baristas of arts and ignore the boys who will grow up to design, build, operate and maintain our basic infrastructure?

The patriarchy may be dead, but the matriarchy certainly isn’t, and it looks poised to bring the whole world to a standstill.

cage

Force boys into smaller and smaller spaces, and you destroy us all.

How very clever.

Lots of love,

JB

People sitting on trains–that’s the kind of pressing issue that makes feminism necessary? That’s why we can’t get funding for domestic violence shelters for men, because feminism needs so much resources for vital problems like this??? We can’t listen to men who have been raped because feminists are too busy playing train police?

9/10 it’s the dudes that give me their seats when i have a sleeping child in my arms on the train. More often then not i have to ask some bitch to move her bag or her groceries so I can sit down, the look i get, it’s a bag, I have not hurt it’s feelings.

Thing is, this article is written somewhere, where obviously the trains aren’t packed all the time, London rush hour 9am-11, 2pm-8pm, 10-12pm, it’s like a really sad, sweaty and awkward game of twister;armpits, crotches, feet everywhere, we will all still try to pull out a book or paper or phone to read, no matter the level of contortioned discomfort.

I see no clearer evidence of the “patriarchy” being dead then the fact that this is what they’re worried about.

This is apparently the new hot thing in feminism because these things are popping up everywhere (movethefuckoverbro.tumblr.com is the first one I’d heard about. Then there’s the response blog movethefuckoversis.tumblr.com which is brilliant.)

And can we talk about the fact that these are the same people who get up in arms over “creepshots”? how is this any better (the owner of the MTFOB blog claims it’s different because she isn’t “sexualizing” the men in the pictures, but considering she’s obviously jilling off on her own self-righteousness, the difference is academic at best.

One night, in a lounge, late 90s, I approached a girl who was in her late 20s. Just like me. She was surrounded by friends both male and female.
She rejected me -no problem- I turn and asked the bar tender for a drink. But she told me too, to get out of “her space”.
I asked her what was exactly HER space. And she told me “2 meters around”.
I rejected her demand. And I stayed side by side of her. Not talking to her. Not watching her. But just “there”. By the bar, ordering a drink.
Then she start shouting me to get OUT. I told her that it was a public space, not her place. She did not care and kept on shouting and she ordered her white knights to punch me.
And they tried, but the bar tender noticed the problem and he shouted them to get OUT or call the cops. They left.
Women have an strange perception of THEIR space.
    Women need a lobotomy.

    Nice post.

I do think that men are probably more likely to spread their legs a bit – which can probably be annoying in certain situations.

I think women are far more likely to place a bag or purse on the seat beside them (which is actually worse since it takes up a whole extra seat, rather than a tenth of an extra seat)

It would be interesting to see who actually does claim extra space more frequently. Further, it would be interesting to know if large women are as likely to take up extra space as large men. (ie. is gender the key thing, or is it a function of men being larger than women on average?)

Look, women, you’re smaller than human median size, generally. This means that the world is generally MORE comfortable for you since all those public transportation seating options, automobile options, airline seating options are all just slightly bigger than you absolutely need.

There’s another group of people on this planet, shocking I know. Those people are men. Men are generally larger than the median human size. This means that all those airline seating arrangements, bus seat sizes, and automobile headroom options are slightly to greatly too small for us. This means that in order to get equivalent comfort that you’ve enjoyed your entire life, we’re going to be spilling over that median-sized public-transport-seating-allotment, or we will be standing and then our farts will hit you in the face.

Whenever you recline your airline seat into my knees with no thought to the fact that I am forced by the plethora of inconsiderate short people like you into trying to fit myself into what amounts to a child-sized seat for me, you’re being a cunt.

Just once, just once, I want to see an airline that has a graduated seating arrangement wherein shorter people have the equivalent leg, hip and body room that I get when I try to squeeze my 6’2″ frame into a commuter jet. Can you imagine the wailing that would ensue? Suddenly all these hordes of shorter people would have to deal with less space than they’ve always had. It would be that lesser space that I’ve had to deal with all my life. They would whine like babies and I would laugh in their face for all the times I was uncomfortable on a long flight, or had taller friends who refused to ever travel in their entire lives because of how expensive it would be to purchase a ticket to a seat that they can fit into.

So, finally, before I get too far into desiring to kill self-centered people…

If you’re a woman, STFU about space, you’re small enough that the space you get most of the time on most public transportation is equivalent to a lazyboy chair for me.

If you’re a woman, have some f-ing consideration for how uncomfortable it feels to try to fit a larger man-sized body into the tiny spaces afforded to the general public on public transportation. If you are unable to have this kind of consideration, I am sure I can arrange a demonstration of the discomfort a 1.8-meter-plus sized body feels on most public transportation.

It’s always upper-middle class, straight white women who complain about sexism, and who show a seething hatred for men. Always! You barely see this with any other group of people.

I’m so tired of hearing and reading about the First World problems of the privileged class. They should try living outside of their comfortable Western bubble, or move into a poor neighborhood, and we’ll see how far Feminism takes them.

By the way, this isn’t an attack on all straight white women. But I feel that more people who don’t fit into this demographic need to speak up and show feminists what true oppression and hardship really is. Some of us don’t have the opportunity to conquer the “White Man’s World”, like the privileged white feminists do.

This is yet another case of “THIS is the way women do things, so it’s correct. THIS is the way men do things – har har, look at how wrong men are…” with the baseline being that the way women do things is the proper way to do them (communication, emotion, problem solving, decision making, etc.), and the way that men do things is improper and wrong.

Anyone with even a tiny understanding of human physiology will recognize that the most comfortable position for women to sit is with their legs more or less together (based on hip angles and so forth) and that to sit like this, for men, is just uncomfortable. It doesn’t even have anything to do with our genitals (they can be, ahem, moved out of the way, if you will) – it’s all about hip angle. When I try to sit with my legs together, IT IS UNCOMFORTABLE. I’ve seen so many women commenting on how uncouth it is for men to sit with their legs apart, and not one of them seems to understand that what they are asking for is contrary to the basic design of men’s body. We can’t really sit with our legs together. When I’m sitting normally, I can only touch my knees together with effort, once I move the boys out of the way, and oh, imagine the feminist outcry if men were constantly “adjusting” themselves on the train as required to sit with their legs together.

Now, I ask you to try something. Flex your biceps and hold it there for an entire train ride. That’s what I’d need to do with my leg muscles in order to hold my legs together. It ain’t gonna happen. Not so I can please some harpy who is angry that I am built differently than she is.

The tightest I can comfortably sit with my legs spread, at rest without consciously putting effort into holding them together, is about 30 degrees or so. That’s within the limits of some of the pictures posted.

Since I’ve been the victim of men who overdo the whole “leg spread” thing, I can understand the hate here, but you can’t condemn this on one hand and ignore that women love to do the same shit, unless all you want to do is harp on the fact that men are different from women physiologically, and so that must make them inferior in some way. This is just supremacy in action, that’s all.

JB has made that same point on here numerous times, and i agree with you 100%.

It’s amazing how unconcerned with equal work for equal pay women are when the only work available is soul-crushing, mind numbing, back-breaking manual labor. It’s only when men start to sit in air conditioned cubicles for a living that women start thinking that working outside the home looks like a good deal.

I once saw a picture of two SWPL white chicks in high end heels and skimpy clothes walking by a couple guys, one of them halfway into a manhole, both of them filthy and sweaty, working on whatever subterranean utility needed attention on that day. The men were looking at the women, and the women at the men (both women had condescending looks on their faces).

    The caption?

    “Stop objectifying me!”

The punchline was obvious when you looked at the picture. here were two men, working hard in filthy, nasty conditions to make sure that these women’s toilets flushed, internet came on, power stayed up, etc, without thanks or applause, doing work that those women would never dream of doing and would likely be wholly incapable of doing, regardless of how much training you gave them, and the WOMEN in the picture think that THEY are the ones being objectified…

Those men, if the women give them any thought at all, are nothing if not objects to use in the eyes of such women. Tools, and nothing more.

We objectify everybody that we don’t know, personally. It’s pretty much how the human brain works. Only feminists seem to think that’s evil. Everyone else just sort of accepts it for what it is…

It’s usually in industrialized nations where this type of attitude is prevalent among women who are “liberated”.

And to make matters worse, it’s not only women who look at men as tools, but the conservative zealots, with their “Man Up” articles, and discussions on “where have all the men gone” who make it much harder for men to have any semblance of peace in their lives.

No, actually, if you’ve ever ridden a subway ANYWHERE in the world for more than five minutes (two stops local, one express), the body language is very simply one that says:

“Damn, it’s crowded on this stinking tube and that fatty sitting next to me that took up its seat and most of mine very nearly cut off the circulation in the lower part of my body. Now that it’s gone (heck if I know what sex it was), I’m gonna stretch my legs open a bit while I have the room before I lose all feeling below the waste and before another land whale gets on at the next stop and takes its place.”

Nothing complicated or cryptic about it.

One important reason is, that the kind of misandry that JB ridicules has a purchase in the “polite society” of mainstream media — the closest thing we have to cultural authority — that both misogyny and anti-misandry do not have.

As if we needed one, this case in point presents itself right on cue.. According to this piece, pivoting off the very same point that inspired the OP here,

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2013/09/16/on_planes_and_trains_everyone_prefers_to_sit_next_to_women.html

in the feminist/women’s issues blog “XXfactor” on the general news site salon.com, it is actually oppressive for men merely to sit next to women at all, because they’re taking unfair advantage of women’s patriarchically-programmed hesitancy to claim their fair share of seating space.

This is quite typical of the XXfactor blog, an unstoppable spigot of male-hatred that JB has lampooned before; and there is no corresponding outlet in any mainstream corporate media (correct me if I’m wrong) to endorse either the misogyny that you see on youtube, or the anti-misandry that JB and others have to supply pro bono. Since misandry is so publicly in the saddle it’s important to push back against it, more so than some other injustices.

We are talking about the very small minority of men that “take up to much space” The men in the photos are in what the TED presenter calls “Power Poses” The outrage isn’t that there is a wide scale problem, but that any man anywhere has the audacity to be confident and strong and have self esteem.

Men don’t spread their legs when we sit down because our balls are so big – it’s because of the mechanics of where our hip joints are located. It’s also why it’s very, very unusual for a man to be able to cross his legs at the knee.

I will point out that in my state, women are heavier than men by a couple of percentage points. And because women tend to be shorter with lighter bones, that means, well, they’re a bit wider than the men. I don’t even want to sit down on the train for fear of one of them blubbering into my personal space.

To repeat what I said in my previous post, none of these are “Power Poses”: they are pictures of men (and women too) using what little space is available to them at the moment to spread stretch their legs and get comfortable before some piece of unwashed humanity crowds them out again. That people with too much time on their hands, chips on their shoulders, and overactive imaginations prefer to interpret this as “Power Posing” is a mixture of sad and hilarious, but ultimately absolutely ridiculous.

And absolutely impossible to do on a crowded subway train. Funny how that little piece of the obvious seems to go right over people’s heads.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention women who cross their legs. In my town, a lot of the public transport seating faces each other so that someone crossing their legs effectively makes sitting in the opposite seat awkward if not impossible. I don’t enjoy having someone’s shoe constantly bumping into me or rubbing dirt onto my trousers.

Even when I meet female friends socially (say, at a cafe), they’ll cross their legs under the table and end up kicking me. They pretend “oops, sorry” …but they continue to do it.

    Those were my thoughts too.

When I sit, even with good posture, my legs just naturally sit apart. Is this common to men but uncommon to women?

Maybe it truly does have something to do with the difference shapes of our pelvises: http://www.livestrong.com/article/179009-the-male-female-pelvic-differences/

Instead of examining that obvious difference the feminists go first to Patriarchy!

“Schrödinger’s rapist” talks about that endlessly. That men should go out of their way so they aren’t following any woman closely at any point in the day.. because if he’s 10 feet behind her walking in the same direction she’ll be uncomfortable and scared because he might be a rapist. *eyeroll*

Yep, feminists are firmly whinging about first world problems now (and have been for a while.) Thankfully a lot of them on Tumblr are 18 or younger (average age is 16 I bet) so they will get the fuck over this nonsense.. the rest have no excuse.

The legs apart thing is total nonsense from every angle. It’s normal for men to sit that way due to bone structure.. oh but wait, gender is a social construction so obviously they just THINK their bones are different. Right, duh. Oh and men aren’t much larger overall either.

I ride transit daily and I’ve seen all sorts of shitheads of all shapes and sizes. Men sitting with their legs open is hardly an issue unless they’re being incredibly ridiculous (like sprawling all over the place.) The worst are: people who refuse to move for wheelchairs, people who try to bring bicycles onto public transit during RUSH HOUR, people who don’t restrain their children from doing shit like pulling my hair, etc.

Maybe I should start a tumblr about all the godawful shit women do on transit. I could start with the drunk girl covered in swastikas being virulently racist and violent, move onto the one who decided to act like an asshole to a muslim man who moved seats because she brought a dog with her and end on the woman who decided that pushing people in front of trains was hilarious.

Or I won’t because being an asshole/nutcase has no boundaries.

JB asked for examples, not vague hand-waving. Links would be a good start. And you said “thousands” of websites, not youtube videos, so take your time, no rush. Oh, one other thing – if you can show me anything demonizing women in the mainstream media that comes even close to the degrading shit men have to put up with from feminist “journalists” year after year after year, I’ll consider that a bonus, because that’s where much of this crap eventually oozes out, and we’re expected to just suck it up. But I’m guessing you haven’t noticed that.

TBH if I’m on a train I’m usually on a long journey to London or somewhere else, & I couldn’t care less if some silly cow from Jezebel or slate or wot not is giving me a funny look, I usually have a bag to carry, at least one changeover to make, and I’m too tired to be bothered if some delicate little flower’s sensibility is hurt just because I have the “audacity” to guard my bags (not a euphemism) and mind my own business.

Also I don’t care who I sit next to as long as it’s not a baby, a drunk, or a gobby moron.

Uuuugh, these Tumblr blogs piss me off so much. I take public transport all the time and here’s the conclusion I’ve come to, which will probably surprise no one on this site. You ready?

Based on my observations women, not men, are more likely to be obnoxious, take up unnecessary space (your bags are not a person) and be self-absorbed to the point where they don’t even notice the elderly people standing around while they gaze down at their smartphone, in their comfty seat which is reserved for the elderly. I have even seen women (mostly students) who DID notice elderly passengers board, but do nothing apart from continue sitting where they were, while the elderly are trying to get to the back of the bus as the bus is moving. To me, that is absolutely rude and selfish. Women with prams can really be some of the worst passengers. On one of my recent journeys, the driver let three women with large strollers on and yep, they blocked the whole damn aisle. It was lucky the bus had two exits (which I why I suspect the driver was more lenient, but really mate, tell them to wait for another one). One of the worst examples of absolute rudeness and selfishness though, was when I boarded the bus with an older lady who had her handicapped adult son with her. We get on the bus and the poor bloke cannot support himself well while standing, so as the bus was turning a corner, he crashed into a few other people and almost fell. Of course, some lazy bitch took up the seats reserved for the elderly or disabled with her stupid pram and as this man’s mother asked her to get up for him (yes, she HAD TO ASK), the lady gave her death glares. Wow. Death glares. For daring to ask for a seat for her son, who clearly did not have the capacity to stand without the risk of hurting himself or others. But of course, having a stroller on the bus means you cannot possibly have the ability to stand next to it, right?

So in conclusion; in my experience, women are the assholes on public transport while men are more likely to stand up for ANYONE. Of course, this does not mean all women are rude, selfish assholes, but if we’re going by the example of these Tumblr blogs, then it is totally OK to label all women as rude, obnoxious assholes because hey, isn’t that equality? If men are assholes for having their legs open, women are assholes for not having the manners to get up for the elderly or the disabled.

Also, notice how basically everything in a feminist discussion comes down to either vagina or penis. I’m guessing the creators and contributors to these blogs have a really, really bad case of penis envy.

I totally, completely agree with this comment. Where I am (I’m living in Asia), the rudest assholes on the trains/buses are always the women.
Ok, maybe not all the time, but 99% of the time. I find that men willingly give up their seats to anyone they find needs it more than them, but not the women.

And these applies to women of ALL ages. The younger ones, needless to say, don’t seem to have any manners these days. I always see the women literally rushing in to sit down when they see an empty seat, ‘fending off’ other competitors. They will always be the ones seated in the elderly seats, and always the ones so oblivious to their surroundings – either busy staring at their damn phones or at their own reflections on any reflecting surface. That, or they would be watching movies/silly dramas on their phones with the earphones plugged in, blocking everyone’s way and just being a damned nuisance. Women are also always the ones who will put their bags on an empty seat, push past people rudely to get where they want to etc.

I also once had two effing bitches sit on either side of me and start a conversation with each other as if I did not exist. I was in the middle.. and I was initially SLEEPING, I was exhausted out from an entire day of meetings and events and I wanted a REST. fuck I was SOOO irritated. I kept glaring at those bitches and they went on as if nothing happened. and as usual these women are NEVER talking about anything useful or important. or anything of substance. they were talking about what they had for dinner the previous night. wad the fuck. that bit of conversation was so important that it warranted haven’t to talk across a stranger’s face???

Anyway you get my point. the rudest, bitchiest people in the public transportation aren’t the men, its the women.

I’m not gonna get started on the strollers as well. the stupid parents here will shove their way into a crowded train cabin with a stroller and everyone has to make way for them. and half of the time, their spoilt brat children don’t even NEED to be in a stroller. more than half the time, i will see kids who are completely capable of walking (3 years and older) still sitting in a stroller their stupid parents will be pushing around. and we wonder why kids these days grow up with all sorts of character issues. also, doesn’t carrying your children allow for more interaction with them than pushing them around in a stroller? so many stupid people in the world these days.

Oh yeah. The ones I love to hate are the females who deliberately block anyone from sitting next to them by sitting on the aisle seat and placing their bag next to them, thereby using not one but TWO seats.
Needless to say, I make a point of excusing myself and climbing over them, whether or not there are any spare seats, just to piss them off. If I’m really feeling like gifting them with my largesse, I’ll even drop a quiet fart as I climb into the seat next to them.

This makes me want to mention both mechanical aides and expertsystems.

Mechanical aides is such as the HAL exoskeleton which was developed for patients and to some extent nurses but which i can see develop into aides for construction workers letting them work more efficiently (maybe by cartying different tools).

Expertsystems are such as the computer blue gene(? Something blue) which was on jeopardy and which they are now working on turning into a doctor. And of they can turn it into a doctor, why not a financialworker?

In short society might shortly need less people for lots of proffessions.
