The White Ribbon campaign in England has had huge success in signing up Football and Rugby clubs across the country. Pushing on an open door with sportsmen expressing their support for women and condemnation for men who hit women. The fact that this widespread support is a contradiction of their ideological position, that violence against women is somehow culturally acceptable , seems to escape the WR campaigners. Indeed I have pounded the streets onDV campaigns myself and never found a man who thought it was ever right.Sometimes men and women said it might be understandable but still not right. Indeed it was usually women who were more inclined to “see both sides” men it seems were more definitive .

Of course the campaign is cynical in that it does get such support from sportsmen, who are otherwise decried by those they help as the embodiment of ” toxic masculinity” .
