13 feminists talk about beating men…. my new Thought Catalog piece

In reference to the editor who admitted she slapped a man for saying he thought he might have breast cancer, and the other editors confessing that her actions really made them laugh, a commenter agreed that it was very funny and then shared her own story of violence against men, which she understands is abusive. It got worse from there but every once in a while a voice of sanity popped in to call them out.

Reading these makes me realize these women have ever been truly been hit by a man with the force they deserve. So many of them say “I beat the shit/piss/fuck out of him” but I’ve held pads for women and seen women hit/ and it’s generally pathetic in comparison. The only thing they can mean is that they beat the man into mental submission. Which isn’t hard because most men aren’t going to hit back.

Love that skit by Bill. It’s definitely 100% true. The only part I didn’t get is that “..you just don’t do it.”

The entire concept is an excellent example of mass brainwashing and how the ripples in the pond sometimes take so long to hit the shore that we forget what caused the ripples in the first place. Men have been trained for generations to “never hit a girl”, and they have not only accepted the notion, but have embraced it and happily teaching it to their sons.

I have had several women point it out to me that you should “never hit a girl”, but they shut up right quick when I point out that they are not girls.

The english language is a funny thing. Words have meanings. A girl is, by definition, young and juvenile – either prepubescent or still under the age of majority. A female over 18, graduated from high school and working a job or going to college, however, is not a girl. She’s a woman by every measure of the definition.

Of course a grown man shouldn’t hit a child. Male or female, a child should be loved and cared for, nurtured and taught all about the wonders of the world. A woman, though, should be thoughtful of her actions because those actions have consequences.

The idea that you should never hit a woman is as stupid as the idea that the earth is flat. There are countless reasons to hit a woman, and at the top of the list is self-defense. If it’s perfectly okay for a woman to hit me, it must, by default, be perfectly okay for me to hit a woman. Equal rights means equal rights. If I’m angry and give her a pop in the jaw, no big deal. She obviously instigated it.

I’m a disabled man, who was in an abusive relationship with a woman. It was an emotionaly abusive relationship. However one specific time she asked me to lift her, i was much weaker then than i am now, underweight due to my illness etc anyway because i replied truthfully “No i can’t” she took that as an attack on her weight (She wasn’t even over weight or anything) so she gave me a nice big smack on the cheek. It troubles me that so many women see violence this way towards men. Because we need more women to speak out against this stuff as they sure as hell won’t listen to men. Then again I’m not sure they’d listen to women either, these types of women and men are just too far gone in their idealogy to see. I really do see it as a mental illness.

It’s also the case that very often the best way to end a fight and especially to end ongoing abuse is to hit the abuser hard. To not do so can be to invite the continuation of that abuse, and to insist to men that they not hit a woman no matter what may well be to encourage them to continue as targets, and as human punching bags.

I don’t doubt that some women’s violence has to do with seeing the blithe acceptance of it in MSM entertainment. The otherwise funny sitcom Modern Family features a wife smacking, slapping, punching, or kicking her husband every fourth or fifth episode. The reverse never occurs, nor does the show’s gay couple hit. We don’t teach, we imprint. There’s little reason to believe this regular exposure hasn’t convinced girls and teens it’s perfectly acceptable behavior.
