JBTV: Episode 2 – just what are women doing at college anyways?

22 Sep

Okay, so I still can’t figure out how to drop graphics and images into MovieMaker without messing up my audio – I watched a tutorial but I can’t seem to manage to get a second copy of the audio to run so I can mute the first one.

Frustrating, but interesting, too.

I welcome suggestions for improvement!

Lots of love,

JB

Please tell me you bought that andrea dworkin book second hand. I don’t think I could sleep at night if I ever gave that bigoted monster my money or since she’s dead I can only assume it would go to some other part of the feminist hate machine.

MovieMaker used to be a lot better, but it never was all that good.

For $100 you can get Pinnacle Studio 17 Ultimate, which will let you edit high-def video MUCH faster with less crashing. It’s a pretty short learning curve but very much worth it. Even if you’re just splicing things together, a little knowledge on PS will save you so much time and produce a final film that’s so much better that you’ll save the purchase price in time every time you use it.

Now that I am 50, I personally think the ideal sequence for women would be spending our early adult years focusing on marriage and childrearing, and our middle-aged and later years focused outward into society, building our knowledge by either going back to school or becoming more self-educated (or both) and finding creative ways to help solve the problems we see in the world, while at the same time nurturing our grandkids. I heard about this concept from someone back in my college days, so I’m really just remembering it as an older and wiser woman.

In the ideal scenario, husbands’ careers are well established by middle age, children are pretty much independent, and a woman who’s spent her early adult years supporting her husband’s career and pouring herself into her husband and kids has a secure financial and emotional base from which to branch out and figure out what to do with the next half of her life.

However, since I know from personal experience that the ideal scenario doesn’t always come to fruition, I think it’s a good idea for a young woman, prior to marriage, to have at least a bachelor’s degree, or some other in-demand skill (such as being a talented seamstress or caterer) that she can cash in on if needed. Even my bachelor’s degree in social work — which I realize you’d classify as a useless degree — opened the door for me to get a job working from home as a telephone English instructor, a few years ago when my husband’s health issues made it necessary for me to start bringing in an income.

The hourly pay is a lot better than Starbucks, plus I get to choose my own hours and, with no commute to and from work, am able to spend a lot more time with my family both before and after work and during breaks. While I realize my job isn’t as essential to life as many other jobs, such as STEM jobs, I do feel very good about helping non-native English speakers increase their fluency in the world’s primary language for business and science communication, as well as for all kinds of information. And the better we can all communicate, the more efficient we’ll be at working together to solve our many problems.

Of course, in an ideal sequence, a 50-year-old woman like me would have kids who were already grown and through college, or whatever training they needed to prepare for life, and a better financial situation, so it wouldn’t be such a huge leap to think about laying out the finances for higher learning, or even working away from home all day. But since I wasn’t really with the program in my early years, I didn’t marry and start my family until I was 35, and also wasn’t even thinking about building that economic base, such as by saving lots of money while single rather than blowing every paycheck on spontaneous fun…

And my dear husband married and started his family very young the first time, without any college or credentials, and therefore spent his younger years working low-paying jobs and barely scraping by…

This means that I am a 50-year-old woman with a 14 and 9-year-old, and no money set aside for their futures. And I would never dream of being so self-centered as to rack up lots of debt going back to school, fun as that would be for me, because I want to be able to use any extra money I might have to help them get their own starts in life.

I therefore feel very blessed to have my not-so-useless social work degree, because a bachelor’s degree was the base requirement for what I really think is a pretty good job for a middle-aged woman reentering the labor force after a ten-year break, a woman who incidentally was so lacking in ambition even prior to marriage, that after a short stint spent counseling Cuban ex-convicts in a halfway house, decided that it was just more fun taking care of kids in daycare centers, and spent most of her working years doing just that.

I would love to see a transcript accompanying your video since I am deaf. I am in favor of your discourses. I would love to have access to the information you share since I live amid the feminists.

That might make an interesting episode, talk a little about that book. Whenever i learn about Dworkin’s ideas they are even crazier than I expected.

Is it knowledge and experience bad for women?
The more naive and unexperienced the better for women?

I have just read an article in Roosh V: “Experience have a differet impact in men and women”.
Roosh V means ALL kind of experiences, but he focuses, especially, in sexual experience.

That would explain why players like Hugh Heffner, Warren Beatty, and Julio Iglesias they looked in such estate of smily beatitude -shiny, I would say- when they were in their 40s. And why cock carouselers they use to end up mental cases, like in the movie “Ninphomaniac”, by Lars Von Trier.
In a few cases, carouselers they look shiny, when they hit their 40s, like Cameron Díaz. But the norm is rehab and the loony bin. And no need to wait to their 40s, in many cases they insanity shows in their 20s (like LiLo, for instance).
Promiscuity in the male use to be associated to a helathy lifesyle (players are so happy that they do not need to be numbed by drugs and alcohol) and promiscuity in the female use to be associated to drugs and alcohol.

    Why?

And carouselres tend to smoke a lot of cigarettes.

Usually, playboys, do not smoke cigarettes. At all. They tend to smoke pipe -like Old Heff- or cigars, whic are way more healthy (or less unhealthy) than cigarettes. And is more “ritual”, slow and “dolce vita”, not compulsive and filthy , like cigarette smoking.

I would need to see hard numbers to see if there is anything to what you’re saying. There’s a lot of women out there that are very sexually experienced, who haven’t fallen victim to what you say they will (drug use and looney bin). There are a lot of men who HAVE.

Even if there were hard data to back that up, you’d have to be careful to not screw up causation in your assumptions – for instance, is a person looney bin because they are sexually experienced (ie, a slut) or were they sexually experienced (ie, a slut) because they were already looney bin? Which is causing which? Or, do the two things even have anything at all to do with each other?

I guess my point is that your argument or thesis, or whatever you call it, is pretty weak and needs some help to ensure we’re not just talking about confused correlations and/or confirmation biases.

Well, the idea is by Roosh V, but I think there are a lot of casuistry supporting the theory.

I have to say, I know a lot of carouselers in their 40s that are mental cases. Not looney bin but extremely unbalanced and hysterical. And I know them since they (we) were in their (our) teens.
And all of them smoke cigarettes.
When we were in our teens they were not mental cases, at all. They were starting the carousel.
All of them are divorced, by their initiative, and relapsed carouselers. But they were carouselers before marriage and I suspect, in many cases, during marriage.

I always thought about it but I never dared to make a correlation. So, I was more in your side. But always smelled rotten in Denmark. And this article by Roosh V confirms my suspicion.

Loved your comment about bachelors of bullshit. That is exactly how I feel about most of these courses that were created and given degree status, in order to make dumb people feel smart. I figure what society should do, is make a new form of University, for STEM only, and let the rest play pretendies in their pretend higher education

The key is that men and women should have choices in life. The problem now is that women are told they should be able to do anything, but bare none of the responsibility of those choices. That responsibility is pushed to men, who are told to man up and limit their choices.
