The Peter Lloyd interview in which Peter Lloyd actually appears!

18 Jan

For some reason we still do not understand, Peter Lloyd was unable to call in to the Hangout yesterday, so I interviewed Peter without Peter being there.

Yeah, it was awkward.

Here is the real Peter Lloyd, talking to me about his terrific book Stand By Your Manhood.

    It’s a feminist conspiracy.

J.B., I know you prefer the written word — I do too — but it’s good that you at least make the occasional video so the world can see how gorgeous and personable you are.

Lloyd also comes across as a very kind, sensitive, and caring person.

As I mentioned on the other thread, it looks like some doctors also require a husband’s permission before performing a tubal ligation on a married woman, and it does seem rather silly and intrusive for doctors to try and police marital relationships.

I personally think that any married person who’d become permanently sterilized without their spouse’s consent is a really shitty person — with the exception of people in bad marriages who feel like they need to stay for the sake of the kids who are already in the home, but don’t want to bring any more kids into such a bad situation, and can’t get their spouse’s permission regarding sterilization.

It’s also shitty for a woman to have an abortion without her husband’s consent — again, with the exception of the situation I mentioned above. But I think pretty much everyone can empathize with the wife in “The Godfather” who aborted her third pregnancy as soon as she found out it was a boy, so as not to bring another child into the world who’d live out his days as the property of the mob.

Outside of some really exceptional cases, it’s only a very shitty married person who’d make a unilateral decision to get sterilized or end a pregnancy — but I don’t think it’s doctors’ or lawmakers’ role to make sure people don’t shit on each other in this way.

I agree, Susan. No one should be making any unilateral reproductive decisions without consulting the other person, whether it’s getting pregnant or becoming sterile, but I doubt very much doctor’s are in the best position to determine this. It’s such an intrusion and I’m certain it is far more often applied to men than women (the need to get permission).

Yes! We are getting a plugin to allow people to call in and talk to me live. Should be up and running possibly next week. We might need a week to train on it.
