When the world goes to hell, it’s men who die to save others. Remembering the first responders of 9/11

11 Sep

9-11-firefighter-1

Of the 2977 people killed on September 11th, 2001, 414 were NYC emergency personnel who responded to the attack. 341 firefighters, 60 police officers, 8 EMTs and 3 court officers.

Two of those responders were women. The other 412 were men.

Glance through any newspaper or magazine, browse the web, listen to the radio, watch television and you will be bombarded with the message that men are bad. They are rapists and murderers and wife-beaters and misogynists who delight in hurting women and take every opportunity to do so. That is the story feminism concocted about men and they have been horrifyingly successful in disseminating it widely. Men are treated with suspicion and often outright hatred, and the only reason for that is ironic –  because we are more or less living in one of the safest and most secure places on Earth.

Detonate a bomb or crash some planes into buildings, and it becomes very, very clear that what stands between us and abject horror is men. Men are the ones who rush into the smoke and flames and falling debris. Men are the ones who put their own lives on the line to save others. Men are the ones who die.

angels

On this day I want to remember the men who died evacuating the World Trade Center, and making what could have been a death toll in the tens of thousands considerably lower. They were sons, husbands, fathers, brothers – they were brave men who did their jobs and gave their lives in that service.

They were not rapists or murderers or child abusers or sex offenders or incompetent bumbling idiots or any other negative, hateful stereotype we see and hear about men.

They were men. Just normal men.

Today is a day to remember the men who died, and to turn to all the men around us who are alive and say two simple words:

Thank you

Thank you for your need to protect others. Thank you for your strength and courage and bravery. Thank you for taking risks. Thank you for being afraid and still doing what needs to be done.  Thank you for facing danger. Thank you for being selfless.

Thank you for being a man.

9-11-firefighters-flag

Thank you.

Lots of love,

JB

The problem is not that feminists say that men are women-beaters or rapist. The problem is that they want to be beaten and they want to be raped.

Worst: they want to be beaten and raped and then complain to the media. And then they go for more, and then complain again.

I deleted your first comment because it felt incredibly disrespectful. And genocides are terrorist attacks are often carried out by women – the Rwandan Genocide carried out by many, many women who hacked children to death.

Why would you even post a “men are bad” comment here? That is the real question. Even on a day like 9/11 you can’t accept a post celebrating good men without trying to interject something evil into the conversation?

‘Keep your replies civil. My patience today is extremely limited.

You are a real piece of work, Spaniard. I keep trying to convince myself that I’m misinterpreting something, or the true intent isn’t coming across in “print.” But no, this affirms my observation: You are a misogynist of the deeply dwelling woman hating kind, not the occasional lapsing into a joke kind.

Here you group every woman as wanting to be beaten and raped. I guess, for instance, my mother and a daughter of mine didn’t get the memo. I’ll just collapse the two stories into “You won’t ever do that again…….cuz I’m gone.”

The whole 50 Shades of Gray phenomena shows, and those of us who have treaded into BDSM, know that huge numbers of women do want to know pain, domination, and loss of control (“power exchange.”) But that’s very different from the drunk husband beating up his wife, or a not wanting sex and being raped.

The final insult to this blog is that you didn’t even make a comment about the topic……just another rant. I hope The Pussy Goddess either cuts you off completely, or is sending Lorena Bobbitt to the Iberian peninsula.

I don’t have a source for this, but I remember hearing about a sudden surge of pregnant soldiers as their units were starting to be deployed to Afghanistan and later, Iraq.

Totally shameful. The 412 men who died in the attacks didn’t have that option. And I doubt they would have taken any option to not do their duty.

Honestly – this kind of myopia leaves me speechless.

Of course most really, really bad stuff is done by men.

Most really really good stuff is done by men as well.

For one simple reason – men are more exceptional then women. In any given population you will find far more male CEOs, Nobel Prize winners, breakthrough scientists, great leaders, sublime artists then you will women – about 8 times more in fact.

You will also find more male criminals, homeless, clinical imbeciles, despots than women – about 8 times more in fact.

For one very simple reason – eggs are more valuable than sperm. Nature needs us to evolve so it experiments, pushes the envelope of what it means to be human. And you don’t experiment with the most valuable part of your population – young fertile women – which of course means women in general.

Women, as a group, cluster much more around the average then men do, as a group.

This doesn’t mean that women are incapable of reaching the top, or the bottom, just that there will always be fewer of them there, compared to men.

And yet feminism continues to take the worst of men and use them to characterize all men, and take the best of women and use them to characterize all women. And use the fact that there isn’t a 50-50 split of men / women in EVERYTHING to justify it.

So men are demonized and many women are instructed to take paths they are not best suited for. End result; men disengaging and women increasingly relying on psychiatric drugs and other self destructive self medication to get by.

The sad thing is – you know who used to control the really bad men and help the ones at the bottom? The vast mass of balanced, reasonable, fair and decent men in the middle. The very men feminism has attacked because it knew these men were too good natured to truly fight back.

And they haven’t. Instead they are walking away. You might want to give that some consideration before you join the chorus implying that all men are as bad as the worst of men. And please don’t try to deny this was the implication of your post – leaving me speechless is one thing – don’t make me think you are feeble minded as well. I have a mother, wife and daughter whom I love very much but I know they tend towards plausible deniability when they think they can get away with it.. But they at least try to control it and see the men in their lives for what they are rather than what the herd tells them to think.

    So should you.

Until a few centuries ago, a person’s achievements almost entirely depended upon his/(sometimes her) martial ability which has been a male thing.
Now as we feel less encumbered by nature due to modern technology, I do see women competing with men on same level in the future.
Even now you see Kurdish peshmerga women fighting against the extremists (who stone women) when Iraqi soldiers retreated. This might be a cherry-picked example as of now, but I hope to see more of these examples in the future. Of course it is necessary that they accept the responsibilities after gaining such power.

Speaking as a first responder, albeit just a volunteer, I don’t do it for the glory or the thanks, I do it to feel useful. There’s nothing I hate more than being a bystander when something bad is going on. I want to put my skills and abilities to use for the community, for my family, and for my myself. 1% of the population of Tasmania (where I live) are volunteer firefighters just like myself, we’re a very small state with a very small population and only 200 actual paid firefighters (most of whom are administrators and trainers) so we volunteers are essential to keeping everyone safe. For us, it’s not about heroism, it’s simple pragmatism, the state and our communities simply wouldn’t function without us and life would be a lot more dangerous for everyone ourselves included. On behalf of the men (and yes, a few women too) in yellow, thank you for the thanks. We’ll do what we do regardless, but it is nice to be recognised.

Modern technology has freed most of the human race from 40 centuries of agricultural labor (at least). As late as the year 1900 in the USA 50% of the American population was rural, 50% urban. Billions of lifetimes have been lived tending the crops. Even ancient Rome with its population of 100 million had only 250,000 legionnaires. That is 1 in 400. That was a full time paid army which had never existed before and would not be seen again until 15th century in Europe. Wars and battles got written into history for their drama, excess and outcomes. A time motion study of the human being through history would show much time spent hoeing rows of beans, pulling up turnips and robbing chickens of their eggs. The sliver on the pie chart showing war and preparation for war when compared to pulling weeds would be very small indeed. You are correct when you suggest all this changed recently, about 2 centuries ago. Prior to the steel ploughshare and the steam engine nearly all humanity in all climes and times have lived in the cycle of the seasons, the need of labor today for a harvest tomorrow and only the company of each other’s speech or song to fill days and nights between. It is those activities which are the baseline for human culture NOT martial ones. The experiment which is public education and the revolution which is modern communication seems to have produced so large and so loud a volume of information that it is perhaps forgivable to forget the centuries of human culture that underpin our temporary now.

It is true that humans have mostly been involved in agricultural activities throughout the history, but the radical changes and reforms in society have been successful mostly due to martial activities in history.

See French revolution, Civil war, Wars of independence- they wouldn’t have occurred in that time if peasants or locals had not shown their strength in wars.

You wouldn’t have imagined such a thing as egalitarianism at the time of Joan of Arc. This is why feminism has been important in granting rights to women who couldn’t have them by having a fight obviously.

Lets assume I have a fantasy device, through which I can overcome the lack of physical strength in women due to sexual dimorphism and use it on the women in places like Middle East. I bet you will see a drastic change in the attitudes against women.

It really saddens me that the so-called feminists in the liberal west cry over stupid problems while ignoring the major problems women are going through in the middle east.

    Peacock;

The problem isn’t even the ABILITY to compete with men, but the desire to.

Women choose a safer existence, ;generally speaking. If you look at a statistical curve of men and women, the women bunch much more tightly to the center then men do, meaning there are far more exceptional men, and far more horrible men, than there are women. You’re going to see more men robbing banks, and likewise more men pinoeering new sports like wingsuiting and motocross.

It’s not that women can’t race motocross. I’ve seen several that were quite good at it. But most choose not to, and have no desire to.

It’s sort of a biological thing. It has to do with expendability.

On a brutal, biological basis, a tribe can lose all but a few of it’s men, and they will be fine. One man can sire hundreds of children.

One woman, though? Maybe 5, back in pre-modern medicine times, on average. I’ll bet the average is actually even lower than that, but let’s say 5, just for argument’s sake.

You lose a villiage full of women, the tribe is dead. Lose a villiage full of men? Meh, it sucks, but you’ll recover.

Men are more expendable than women, and so evolution (and probably society, to a certain extent) has pushed women to be more risk adverse than men, just on a “survival of the species” basis.

Women are less risk adverse. There are less women on the bottom of the scale, and likewise less at the top, and there’s a reason for that.

In order to ever, ever, ever get women on the same level of competition as men, as a whole, you’re going to have to:

    1.) Wait for evolutionary biology to catch up with modern times, which could take thousands of years;
    2.) Lower the bar by bringing men down a peg;
3.) Force women to compete at levels that they have no desire to compete at, and therefore make them all miserably unhappy.

    Guess which one feminists choose?

I’m tired of that military vs. civilians comparison. As if the men in the military are more expendable than men and women who are not.

Nothing in the US was a valid military target on the morning of December 7th, even our military, because we weren’t at war.

It was the height of chickenshit cowardice that caused Imperial Japan to strike in the blind like that. No less excusable than 9/11 just becaus it was a “military” target.

Our military was at peace at the time. It was doing more humanitarian work then than it was wartime. You could make the argument just as easily that htey hit a humanitarian installation as a military target that morning.

White men wear condoms when they intercourse with black women, but black men don´t when they intercourse with white women (in many cases, there is no size enough for them) and white women say “OK, no problem, let´s go”, and then we have all that wave of single moms (in Spain, too) with mulato babies, and the State has to support them. It seems black men (at least the wave of Subsaharian young African men we are dealing in Spain, lately) are not very sensible, neither responsible. I do not know in U.S.

Throughout the neolithic portion of our specie’s existence, we have always differentiated casualties when military or civilian. It has no reflection on the value of a life, but society’s. People go into the military, willingly or not, knowing that there’s a fair chance that they will be killed. That’s why we pay all the lip service about honoring our military.

But people don’t go to work one morning with that mind set.

Deaths in law and the military are a lot less frequent that commonly held. Safer than being a taxi driver or convenience store clerk or a farmer. Actually, even in a war theater, your odds of survival are higher than realized. I did calculations once about the Viet Nam War once, and the odds were 7 to 1 that you wouldn’t be killed. Yes, I know this doesn’t take into account the wounded, whether physically or mentally. And behind the lines occupations swing the odds away from the higher risk of being in the jungle. I had a friend who, since he was a surfer got assigned to be a life guard at Cam Ranh Bay.

How true! Russian women fought brave and hard with the men in WWII, mostly in support roles. But just like our own Rosie the Riveters, when the question of survival of the group, the culture was over, it was spread legs, make families.

One of the most powerful “A ha!” moments in my life, repeated a few times was when I worked in mostly female office environment ca. 1994. From time to time, the receptionist would announce over the office PA, “Bunny is here with her new baby!” Bunny, of course, had left employment to have her new baby. There would be this stampede of women rushing to the lobby, each leaving their work duties as fast as they could justify.

The men in the office would typically either ignore this call to motherhood, or wander out there eventually to be civil.

When friends and family have a birth announcement my reaction is rather subdued. It’s not on the line of “Ohmifuckinggod its a miracle!” (Which it is a miracle only in the sense of how amazing nature and DNA do their jobs.) I think for most men that aren’t the fathers, the responses tend to be more on the lines of, “Is he/she healthy?”

There is SO much human behavior that is hard wired, as you say. Evoluntionary psychobiology, if you will. It forms us and informs us. Then we have the gall to congratulate ourselves, thinking that we made a decision, when in fact, it was made a million years ago. And then we proceed to justify it with logic.

Like woman and children first, these matters are everywhere, at all times we are awake. It’s why we care more about family, then friends, then the community, than people half way around the world, no matter how heart rending the situation is. We care or don’t care based on the amount of DNA and “cultural DNA” that we share. Despite all our sophistication and technological prowess, dating is essentially just mating. Again, from what to wear (expose cleavage? Not?) to intercourse, the decisions were made long ago.

It informs us in who we should trust, who we should fear. It justifies war and violence, it makes us do utterly stupid and self-destructive things (think sex!) It makes us send the expendable males out to intercept the strangers and send the women and children into hiding.

It’s a long list, but not the theme of this thread, so I’ll stop.

And, might I add, it was MEN who dropped by parachute and glider into and stormed onto the beaches of Normandy to assault the greatest defensive “wall” in history, and the might of Hitler’s Wehrmacht defending “The Atlantic Wall” of his “Fortress Europe” in the largest amphibious and airborne operation in the history of the world, in an effort to liberate an entire continent from the tyranny of oppressive dictatorship…and it was those men, facing staggering odds and fear beyond anything imaginable, who succeeded, but who lost their lives by the tens of thousands.

It was MEN who travelled half way ’round the world to fight in deplorable conditions in a so-called “police action” they didn’t understand (so-named because our leaders didn’t want to acknowledge [until later] that it was really one hell of a war, to liberate the invaded people of South Korea. Some of these men today, nearly 60 years later, who only recently received the recognition and respect they so long deserved, still suffer from its effects: physical damage from frost bite, hearing loss, loss of limb, and psychological damage.

It was MEN who were sent to another land a decade later in the same region of SE Asia, to defend yet another beleaguered nation called Vietnam. These men were different in that their corrupt and grossly incompetent leftist leaders at home (starting with “The Commander -in-chief Lyndon Johnson) lacking any military experience, chose to “run” that war from the War Room in the Pentagon. They forced those “boots on the ground” (which they conveniently seemed to forget were filled with young American BOYS-forced overnight to turn into men prematurely) to fight a horrific enemy but with rules of engagement unprecedented in military history. This included no-fire zones. It included according different villages different rules and punishing you if, in the heat of battle, you got them mixed up. It forced our MEN to hold fire when they had the enemy clearly in sight preparing to attack them…but to wait until Americans were dead before returning fire. It included ordering our B-52 bombers to attack targets but to always follow the same exact route to and from that target so that the enemy could “give thanks” and move into position along that known route…ordered by Johnson…more anti-aircraft guns than Hitler was able to muster in all of Germany against attacks by our 8th Air Force…and thus down our first-ever B-52s, killing or imprisoning our MEN. And, after enduring the hell that was Vietnam, these MEN came home…lucky to do so in one piece…to be spit upon by ignorant Americans…defamed, ridiculed…by leftist Activists who willingly drank the Kool-Aid dosed out on American campuses by communist professors like Bill Ayers. These brave men who suffered so much (many of whom still suffer in silence) have only recently been granted any respect or recognition and then, only because of the glaring difference in their treatment verses the American Men and some women, who returned from successful mission in Iraq, the first of which lasted something like 3 days, with a couple of men and women taken captive briefly, and fewer than 100 KIA.

So, in conclusion, it’s great that women are now allowed to fill certain combat roles, as required in Israel. But, you enjoy your freedom (including your right to perpetually bash men and make them the brunt of your wit and diatribe) because American MEN protected that right by laying down their lives and sacrificing their futures. Don’t believe me? Then, why don’t all of you men-bashing, men-hating women, renounce your citizenship, and move to Saudi Arabia where you will spend your lives wrapped from head to toe in the hottest nation on earth, shut your mouths and perform your one role as “breeder” and bow to your husband as one of his many wives, don’t think of voting or speaking out, forget getting any education and surrender your Driver’s License, because you are not permitted to do even that. Hmmm. Maybe being a “Soccer Mom” isn’t that bad after all, when you put it in THAT perspective. And MAYBE you ought to change your thinking when it comes to men. Just a thought. Oh, and here’s one last one: I heartily suggest that all MEN boycott the products and services of any and all companies who feel that it is either “cute” or appealing to promote their firm, their products, their services in television ads that make MEN look like idiots and the women have all the sense. It’s time we make our influence (and spending power) FELT. Bill Peterseim

Last time I checked, Hitler was a man.

Saudi Arabia is the theocracy by Men, for men(women are the breeders)

Red Army- Men who raped German women after fall of Berlin.

If we recognise that women do not desire to be in martial conflicts and they are not physically capable and that they are more suitable in households- then why didn’t Hitler spare the Jewish and Slavic women?

Why didn’t Soviets spare the German women when it was the German men who fought for the reich?

These are not just some token examples. The fact is that they have occurred throughout history. Men fought for religion, gold and lands before and they fight for religion, oil and lands now.

Or perhaps I’ve misunderstood JB’s post. Maybe she’s only referring to American men and not all men. After all, not all men are like that.

@Scythian arrows- What exactly is the manly virtue?

Hitler invaded Poland and Russia due to need of “Lebensraum”. The need of Lebensraum t is female´s fault because they are giving birth nonstop like rabbits. They do not give a fuck (literally) about the economic situation or the lack of space. of couse, men should be more sensible too, and not surrender to female´s caprice of children.

Most wars are promoted by women, like bullies in the high school are female´s henchmen.

Hiter did a fantastic economical and cultural work in Germany. He should not kill 6 million jews. I agree with that. Would be enough to expropiate the big Jewish capital and expelling the Jews to other part of the world, like kings Fernando and Isabel did in Spain in XV Century.

“Es muy jodío vivir bajo el judío” = “It sucks to live under the Jew”.

Soviet soldiers in Gemany in 1945… what would you expect after Barbarossa Operation?

i saw tons of European feminist female going to Islamic countries to shag with that handsome, manly, macho pig, islamic, Arab guys… in many cases having children with them, going to live with them not like girfriends but like concubines (and loving it), and even getting married to them… and then complaining about how macho pigs these Arab men are and buh, buh, buh, buh, Estrasburg rescue me, i want to go back home but not without my daughter, and European welfare State support me with my child, and blah, blah….

So German women were forcing their men to have sex because they wanted more and more and more babies? Men kept saying, “Let’s not shag so much because we don’t have enough space for more kids” — but the women just kept pushing and pushing and pushing for more sex? You see THIS as the cause of the Holocaust? Women being too eager for sex?

It is not cause of the Holocaust it is the cause of IIWW.

German women being to eager for reproductive sex. Not just sex. And German men being weak and saying: “Ja, meine Liebe”.
By the way… I do not understand that in a Lutheran country. In a Catholic one is te norm.

Peacock you are one fucking moron. Even your comment is pure bullshit, and hatred towards men, what does that have to do with this article? You are one illogical cunt! American cunts like you is the reason why I deal with Eastern European,Brazilian women only, and tell my fellow American men to do the same, leave all American women behind. Newsflash, men are needed more than women cuz women are pussies, and no protection, and men are the opposite. I’m a man myself, and if shit is going down,I want men to help me get out of it,not women! Women look out for themselves, men look out for each other in most cases!

The people who carried out the terrorism act were men. The people who protected your country to insure that you can live luxuriously, getting an education, venting your misplaced hate, driving cars, catching the bus, plans and trains, are also men. We die so that you can survive. Similar to the mantas theory.

Men commit more violent crimes than women. I don’t think that’s really in debate.

The issue is that given the EXACT SAME violent crime, and woman will do less than half the time that a man will, for the same crime. I think that’s the point that your stats are trying to make.

OOOOHHH! Yay! One example contrary to the overriding point, supported by overwhelming evidence, and BAM!

All other arguments are invalid, amirite?

I hope you’re not stupid enough to turn the statements made above, saying “most women x…” into a statement falsifiable by one woman choosing to do so?

You do understand how statistics work, don’t you?

The fact that you can bring up an example of one woman doing something contrary to the overriding point of this article is meaningless. Saying “most women don’t become suicide bombers” or “most suicide bombers are men” is not statement that is made false by finding one example of a female suicide bomber.

Until you can understand that, please, do us all a favor and butt out.

Yes, terrorist attacks are mostly done by men.

So are, as our hostess pointed out, most heroics.

Men (often supported by great women) are the ones who run into the fire to save lives of those they don’t even know. Men are willing to sacrifice their lives to save women and children–including those who aren’t even related to them–in a disaster situation. Men are the ones who take the risks, because it is who we are, written in our DNA just like cognitive dissonnance is written in the DNA of ‘feminist logic’.

Most modern women are unwilling to sacrifice their time or effort to thanking men for their honorable treatment, nevermind their lives in the service of an ideal. That is why ‘male privilege’ exists. Because collectively, we have worked for, and earned it.

Jesus. If we’re going to play the “Why Game”, why does life exist? Why do lions eat gazelle? Why are dolphins beautiful?

Some things just are. War happens, and it effects men and women equally. Humans are flawed, often stupid beings. You think war was waged purely for the privilege of raping the conquered’s womenfolk? No, it was/is not. War is waged for a plethora of reasons. Some are even good. It sucks, but humanity must take the brunt of collateral damage, men and women both.

There will never be a perfect world, and no amount of bitching will change that
