Princess Pointless has a very sick little munchkin and she left her job to care for him. She regularly does 72 hours shifts at his bedside! 72 hours! And guess what she gets paid to do that work? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING! Where is the sisterhood now? Where are all the politically aware feminists in arms? Where are the PAY ME MOTHERFUCKER protesters? Where are the politicians and leaders and activists?

And what do they spend that money on? Walk into any supermarket and look at the products. Look at them carefully. 95% of the shit you can buy at any WalMart or Tesco is fucking rubbish aimed at assuaging the guilty consciences of women who get up every day and leave the baby at the day orphanage while they go off to their “job” which is incredibly unlikely to involve A) curing cancer, B) creating technologies that improve the world or C) anything useful at all.
Yeah my kid spends 60 hours a week in institutional care while I plan strategies for marketing nail polish! Yay for me! What a great contribution.
The truth is that women don’t give a fuck about other women. There are no women rallying around me and the Princess. It’s the men in our lives who care. Who value us. Who pay the bills. Who love us for what we CREATE and PRODUCE and who are prepared to pay for that.
Feminist? Not a fucking chance. Not until I hear the voices of a million women screaming for our contributions to humanity to be acknowledged, respected, admired and PAID FOR! And what are those contributions to humanity. Oh nothing, except for HUMAN BEINGS.

I’ve heard that basically many if not all the greatest men in history, pretty much owed the greatness of their character to good mothers who raised them as children. Being the teacher of the new generation of humanity and making kickass people out of them seems like pretty much the most awesome, and primary, contribution to society EVAH. Hmmmm, thought I was all along by raising our boys and caring for our home. But it does not count in their eyes since I am not getting that COLD HARD CASH. so yeah, no prep rally going here for me. The thing that gets me? First wave feminism, way back in the 1800’s, was centered around elevating respect for traditional women’s work, not declaring so degrading women shouldn’t have to do it. (Well, that and the vote, but I think we all know about that bit, yeah?) And then I am like @_@. Not every woman wants to be a mother and it’s OK if she doesn’t. But why isn’t there paid maternity leave in the USA that lasts at least two years? Less expensive child care? I’m not saying that I am against women being mothers and wives and such and staying home with their kids considering it’s healthy to have a primary caregiver for at least two years but to say that the only thing women can contribute is babies is really kind of… grrrrrrr

Dang. Just let people have choices about what they want to do instead of pushing them in the same box. Not all women are cut out for full time motherhood. I don’t even think I’m cut out for it. Children make horrible noises that go all through me, even though they are cute and I’ve spend years researching attachment but there has to be a bit of balance here.

Tell you what, when you put a respectable package on the table that includes paid sabbaticals for me equivalent to maternity / paternity leave (not one without the other), I’ll support it. In the mean time, there are seven billion of us. I’m not inclined to say, ‘hey, my treat!’ just because you want to reproduce.
And, believe it or not, my taking a year off to paint is as important to me as your taking a year off to raise your infant.

And why not? Or sculpt, or travel, or anything else you find enriching or ennobling (which I suppose has to include sitting on the couch).
I don’t mean to be a dick about this, but it’s truly not clear to me why those of us who might choose not to have children should be incentivizing in some cases single motherhood. I understand that’s not all that maternity leave does, but why is literally anyone having a child a more important thing than all the other possibilities that childless people consider profound life choices?
I like the idea of sabbaticals, too, on any number of grounds, and not just as compensation for the childless that is equivalent to maternity leave. My dad, a high school English teacher, had the option of taking a year’s sabbatical at half pay at every seven years. It was an opportunity for change, for growth, and a way to refresh one’s perspective. It showed we valued teaching, and understood it to be demanding. It showed we valued children, that they deserved other than teachers worn down by the grind. It was a tribute to the power of unions, too.

Judgybitch, out of all the writers of the manosphere you truly are one my favorite. But I have to disagree here. You are being partially subsidized through the EITC, mortgage tax breaks, etc. There are a lot of tax breaks that come with being married with children. Single, childless men such as myself pay much higher taxes on average than married men with children. Now I understand why this happens, it is the governments attempt to nudge me into the bondage of marriage slavery with the first woman who comes along. I doubt I’ll ever meet my own judgybitch, so as my financial value increases over my lifetime I will be subsidizing married couples for life. Keep up the good fight though! At least I know your children will be a net positive for society.
