This is no time for sisterhood: Women need to get angry with rape liars like Linsey Attridge, says Peter Lloyd – she’s abusing them as well as the system

Linsey Attridge, pictured, falsely accused two men of raping her and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service this week

Earlier this week, MailOnline reported on the case of Linsey Attridge – the latest woman to evade jail after making a false rape claim.

The 31 year-old from Aberdeen, Scotland, falsely accused two strangers of sexual assault in a twisted bid to trap her boyfriend into their ailing relationship.

The single mother-of-one claimed that two men broke into her home and committed the violent attack while her partner was away playing football.

She then punched herself in the face and ripped her clothes to make the story appear more credible, before spending three days trawling social networking site Facebook to find innocent users she could ‘identify’ as responsible.

Her victims were then detained by police, questioned and forced to undergo intrusive forensic and medical examinations.

Then, following two months of police investigations, Attridge confessed that the claim was a malicious lie – purposely designed to emotionally manipulate one man by legally manipulating two others

Not to mention the real victims of rape, both male and female.

Last Wednesday, the mother-of-one appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court where she publicly admitted wasting police time.

But, in another gender-biased outcome for female offenders, Attridge was spared jail in favour of 200 hours unpaid community service. Something that’s neither a fitting punishment, nor a deterrent.

Gender pay gap? Let’s sort the gender sentencing gap too.

Even her ex-boyfriend, primary victim Nick Smith, said: ‘I think the sentence was ridiculous. I actually walked out of the court as soon as I heard it. I think the justice system has let us all down.’

And he’s right.

Because, although it’s clear that men are the only victims in this particular case, Attridge has also betrayed the sisterhood.

Not only has she embarrassed her gender with her lies, but she has also made the process of convicting real rapists even harder for other women. Women who have already endured unimaginable pain. Girls who, sadly, will be subjected to the same horrors in the future.

And she’s not the only one. In April last year, Kent’s Kirsty Sowden – a former John Lewis shop assistant – cried rape over a fully consensual encounter with a man she’d met online. He was arrested at his workplace in front of colleagues and detained in a cell, wasting 376 hours of police time and costing £14,000.

In May 2012, 20 year-old Hanna Byron was spared jail after falsely accusing her ex-boyfriend of rape in revenge for breaking up with her.

emma

In August, Sheffield’s Emma Saxon made a second false rape allegation against her boyfriend, Martin Blood. He was held in police custody for 14 hours and subjected to an intrusive medical examination – all because he’d stood her up.

nick

Nick Smith, pictured, spent weeks comforting his partner Linsey Attridge after she told him that she was attacked

Southampton’s Elizabeth Jones was finally jailed in February – but only after making her ELEVENTH false allegation.

Yet, despite this, not one person or rape charity has ever come forward and distanced themselves from such behaviour. Not one.

Which, by default, is yet another disservice to the real victims of rape – both the men and women who are attacked, and the men named and shamed, regardless of conviction.

Sadly, it’s not just women like Attridge who lie. I’m also talking about women in positions of power. Women like Harriet Harman.

‘Too many people assume that there is a party line when it comes to gender issues – that women must support each other, no matter what. But such misplaced loyalty is insane’

In 2010, an official enquiry report led by Baroness Stern – a prison reform campaigner – ordered Harman to stop misleading the public about rape statistics. For years she’d been pumping misinformation that only six per cent of rapists are brought to justice, when the reality is actually very different.

Actually, the rate is more like two in three – a figure which is much higher than comparable numbers for other violent crimes. Yet still we are told that only 4 per cent of rape attacks go to court.

But where was the outrage from women about this? Quite frankly, it was nowhere to be seen. Just like it was missing this week. Which amazes me.

After all, when Lee Rigby was killed in Woolwich, representatives from Britain’s Muslim community publicly distanced themselves from the actions of Michael Adebolajo in a bid to align with what’s right. They did this by highlight what was wrong.

But I never see this with our country’s feminists, which begs a very sad question: are women galvanising over gender, rather than justice?

Too many people assume that there is a party line when it comes to gender issues – that women must support each other, no matter what. But such misplaced loyalty is insane.

In our best-ever age of equality, women should not stand by somebody simply because they share matching XX chromosomes – if they’re crying rape. They should be raging against them, like the crime of rape itself.

Emma Saxon made a false claim of rape against Martin Blood, a man she had met online, after he failed to show up for a liaison (left) while Elizabeth Jones, 22, has made 11 false rape claims since 2004 (right)

Instead, their apathy reeks.

Unfortunately, women also suffer when judges pass laughable sentences – like the one imposed on Attridge. Because if rape is such a terrible crime, and it clearly is, why isn’t defrauding rape with false allegations also bad? And why is it less bad if you’re a woman?

It’s patronising. It tells the world that women are not strong enough, not independent enough, not responsible enough to be equally culpable as their male counterparts in a court of law. And, whether they like it or not, they are.

Equality means equal. The same.

Ironically, Attridge’s sentence comes just days after a man was imprisoned for sending his son a birthday message via the same website which Attridge used to identify her victims.

The very multi-million pound platform which now censors anything which may be deemed offensive to women, but doesn’t extend the same courtesy to men and boys.

These inconsistencies, just like the inconsistencies in criminal sentencing, do the entire female population a disservice when they favour them.

Why? Because they make it about men Vs. women, rather than right Vs. wrong. And that’s what so many people fail to recognise.

This is not the path to justice. In fact, when women fail to publicly criticise these liars, along with their unbelievably light sentences, they’re not being objective or even ignorant – they’re condoning them.

    Hear, hear!
Even worse in the military, where presumption of innocence for the accused has been replaced by presumption of mens rea. It’s a true witch-hunt environment these days.

[Like] stupid responses? Here’s what one FaceBook responder wrote on Lloyd’s posting about his article:

“whilst this is clearly an issue that needs to be addressed, the figures around reported crimes and actual convictions around rape are still scarily low (95000 reported rapes per year resulting in around 1000 convictions). it should be investigated in every instance. there will always be a handful of people who play the system, but let’s not let it deter people from reporting crimes.”

    “The figures…” Haha.

Have to give Linsey Attridge credit for punching herself in the face. Most false accusers are so shameless they don’t even go to the inconvenience of producing evidence of assault. True, it indicates more premeditation, but at least it demonstrates a teachable mind: sentence reduced by 5 years to only 10 years…for each false accusation.

This is why so many men are giving up on western women. The trust is just slipping away.

One woman has made false accusations eleven times?! I can’t even wrap my head around that. She should have been doing jail time after the first accusation. The only way someone does this so many times is if they don’t get punished for it.

Lloyd makes a lot of excellent points here- not the least of which is that women should not be supporting this behavior. There aren’t enough white knights in the world who’ll put up with this indefinitely and it can only blow back on the rest of us. The longer this goes unaddressed the worse the fallout will be.

Peter Lloyd’s article is spot on.

The problem is that as a society, we’ve been treating women like poor little powerless, bleeding hearts, for too long. You want equality, feminists? Start treating women like actual adults – teach women to be responsible and accountable for their actions, the good and the bad! Of course we can’t actually have that because that takes away from the primary purpose of feminism. I’m a strong empowered women who don’t need no man! Unless the man is the government and unless this government is giving me everything I feel I am entitled to! Grrrl power!

It is so important that we get rid of this stupid notion that women apparently can’t do bad and that men are somehow genetically predisposed to doing evil. That starts with women actually being held responsible for their crimes and punished severely, like any man would be (equality!). That starts with shaming these rotten individuals just like any man would be shamed, guilty or not. Now, there’s a good dose of equality.

Well , most women have the “rape fantasy”. maybe, making all this drama was a kind of “masturbation”.

About British women: every weekend come over to Spain tons of hens partys.
I have been sometimes with the bride and sometime times with the the married girlfrend of the bride. When a British woman telles you: “I have a boyfriend”, or “I am married”. or “I am getting married in a few days” It does not mean that is better for you to stay away. Not al all. It is just a fact, like talking about their job.
I love British women, not only for being such a sluts but, as well, they use to be funny, they are glamorous, they not conceit, they have sense of humour and they are joyfull and drunk. And very attractive my opinion. As girlfriends are the best, except about the fact that they cheat (but it is no problem if you cheat too) I found American women more “long face”, like being angry all the time. Not to talk about Spanish women which are the toppermost of the poppermost of the unpleasent and the “divine”.

I know a female soldier who has made five false accusations. The last involved a non-military suspect, and the city wanted to prosecute her for wasting their resources…but the military stepped in and asked them not to. She is still in the service (but they finally started a file on her, for the next time…). There’s the stuff that reaches the news and a whole lot more that doesn’t. In her case, she ripped her own blouse and cut her own lip by smacking it against the wall (the last time).

How scary is it that the military is too weak (or scared) to handle a nut job like that?

Facebook, eh? Looks like some have gone high-tech about this whole thing. A few years back, my dad’s friend’s son’s friend (I know, annoying reference) was accused of rape by a woman that simply walked past him… he never saw her before in his life… just walking downtown in NYC and suddenly: “RAPIST! HE RAPED ME!”

    *blink*

The guy was found to be innocent… after weeks of grilling him and bringing in droves of witnesses…

Truthfully, most of that trust is gone. No, not slipping away, gone.

Hence the term MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way). Basically, these men will find their 2+ acres of land in Montana (much of it is cheap and useless, but they’re willing to work to improve it) and turn it into their pad (or just sit on the couch and snipe others on XBox/PS3).

For civilization, this is a huge issue… but no one will bother to look at the elephant in the room until we’re already in free-fall from a cliff and we can begin to make out the items at the bottom of the ravine…

They have women on subs now… honestly, I wanna meet the prodigy who came up with that idea. If you’ve ever been in a sub (even a floating museum one), you’ll know that 1) this is a terrible idea because it distracts the men from their mission (and yes, I’ll make the statement that the mission is priority number one and everything else is secondary) and 2) the chance of “HE TOUCHED ME!” is 100% since many have to make it through locks that are 2 fee in diameter.

The judges must make a thorough investigation, and if the witness proves to be a liar, giving false testimony against a fellow Israelite, then do to the false witness as that witness intended to do to the other party. You must purge the evil from among you. he rest of the people will hear of this and be afraid, and never again will such an evil thing be done among you.
    Deuteronomy 19:18-20

So, I guess this means, that if those men had been convicted, they’d have done 200 hours of community service, right? Fair’s fair….

More and more counties in New York state are passing laws and regulations that make it extremely expensive to put a house on land. Counties routinely ignore NYS law allowing composting toilets for small homes (at a cost of $1,000) and mandating complete septic systems running around $20,000.

They’re legislating the sort of escape you describe out of existence.
